Buckle House is a comfy and clean cottage with almost everything you could need. It is very large with comfy beds and a lovely garden. We would love to stay here again. However on arrival the cottage was cold and there was no hot water. We contacted the owners, who got a plumber to ring us. The plumber talked my son through 're pressuring ' the boiler and all was good for a day and a half. The plumber arrived on Monday (when we had no heat etc again) and thought he had mended the boiler but off it went again on Wednesday! Again my son sorted it and the plumber came again in Thursday. I fully appreciate that these things can happen but the owners were dismissive with me and didn't keep in contact so we didn't have a clue what was going on. I see, from reviews, that the same thing had happened to previous guests.

We booked a 4 night stay at Buckle House in March. Gatehouse of Fleet was a good base for us and there were some lovely walks nearby, plus some very good cafes/pubs and a handful of independent shops.POSITIVES:large spacious roomsLovely large kitchen, well equipped Very kind welcome treats, eggs & milkLarge secure gardenGood locationDog friendly with bowl, blanket & treatsGood facilities- everything you needNEGATIVES:Quite a lot of dog hairs on and around kitchen sink, long human hair in fridgeWindow in front large bedroom had gap at top so noisy on occasion & smokyNo mattress protector (just a bottom sheet) and stain on mattress. Not all pillows had protectors (front bedroom)Sadly it is difficult to positively review the cottage as we had some problems which did unfortunately put a damper on our holiday. When contacting the owner to advise of our arrival time and obtain the key code, we were advised that there had been a problem with the heating/water. On arrival the cottage was warm so we assumed it was ok....until the next day when we awoke to no heating or hot water (on a chilly day!). I contacted the owner who arranged for a plumber to attend (he did arrive quite quickly). Meanwhile we had to boil kettles and sit in the bath to have a wash down using a pan! Not a great start to our holiday 😕. Thankfully I asked the plumber to show me how to fix the problem- which was lucky.....as we woke to no heating or hot water on our following 3 days too...so we were able to make it work. I kept the owner updated and advised them at the end of our holiday that it still wasn't working.....I have not received a reply!! I would have thought at least an ex gratia inconvenience payment would have been a nice gesture really. Irrespective of the unfortunate problems encountered during our stay, we still managed to enjoy our break and would still recommend the cottage as it has good facilities and location - as long as the boiler is fixed
