After staying in this cottage last year we thought we would return, sadly the cottage is in need of some care and maintenance. We cut our holiday short after seeing a mouse running across the living room, should have been there till Saturday but left Thursday, tried contacting the owner but we had no response! We were hoping to get some kind of refund after paying for 7 nights and only stayed for five!

This cottage is rated as 4 star but it shouldn't be.The location is fantastic but inside disappointing.Cobwebs hanging off the ceilings and in other places, curtains dirty especially the linings, loads of curtain hooks need replacing, curtains not hanging completely on poles because of this, found an empty plastic drinks bottle beside the sofa, some places hadn't been dusted, no recycling bin inside the property, garden needs lots of attention, only 4 pegs that were hung on the washing line, I had to buy some because we were there for 2 weeks and I had to do some washing. I usually vacuum through before I leave a cottage but couldn't find a vacuum cleaner, only a broom and brush and dutspan. No wardrobes in the king size and single bedrooms and no full size mirrors anywhere. No dressing tables for the ladies. I had to swap a mirror and picture over so I could blow dry my hair near a power point. The mattress was too uncomfortable for my husband so we had to go out and buy a memory foam mattress. On the plus side, the kitchen and bathroom were modern and clean and the linen on the beds and the towels were spotless. The owner does provide many extras and these were appreciated. Such a shame because this is such a lovely little cottage. I am usually ready to come home after 2 weeks holiday but this was such a peaceful and gorgeous location, I didn't want to leave.

We stayed at Field Cottage from 20/12/25 for a week to getaway after a tough year... It’s very clean, great size, brilliant location as it’s in the middle of nowhere with the best views you could wish for. The skies at night are so dark you can see the milky way and so many stars with the naked eye. Beds are comfy and heating was on a constant temp throughout but could be adjusted when it dropped cold. The kids loved toasting marshmallows on the open fire in the living room. A lovely welcome basket on arrival ensured we could have a snack before needing to go shopping (Tesco and Aldi in Castle Douglas). There are books and board games aplenty. The kitchen is really well equipped and I cooked for the entire week without any issues .. it’s an induction hob but easy to use with a great size fridge and freezer. Good clean fluffy towels were provided as well as bed linen but need to bring blankets for one of the bedrooms. Nice place to sit outside and watch the sheep and cows in the fields. Lovely places to visit within and hours drive although we rested last few days with it being Xmas. Would defo recommend to anyone visiting this beautiful country…
