A spacious and comfortable cottage with wheelchair access in a peaceful, rural location within easy reach of local towns. Haugh of Urr village is within a mile of the cottage with The Laurie Arms, a popular pub serving food and real ales. The bustling market town of Castle Douglas, known as the 'Food Town' is four miles away with excellent independent shops and many other facilities including a swimming pool and small theatre/cinema.

The cottage is within a fifteen minute drive of the Solway Coast with beautiful sandy beaches and rocky headlands to explore.  The busy sailing centre of Kippford is only a short drive, also with pubs which serve meals and real ale.  There are excellent golf courses throughout the area with guest access, and opportunities for many outdoor pursuits.  Fishing, both sea and freshwater, is available.  Shooting and stalking can be arranged. Of particular note is the Galloway Activity Centre on Loch Ken with land based activities as well as sailing, canoeing and windsurfing.  Water skiing is also available on the Loch. The 7 Stanes Mountain Bike trails at Dalbeattie and Dumfries are nearby, and a little further afield is the Galloway Forest Park, nominated Britain's first Dark Sky Park.  There are excellent opportunities for mountain biking, walking and wildlife watching throughout the region. Galloway's countryside and historic heritage is also represented by the bird sanctuaries at nearby Caerlaverock Castle, the National Trust for Scotland's Broughton House in Kirkcudbright and Threave Estate with its nationally famous gardens. 

Birdsong House is a superbly laid out house for up to six, and an ideal base for a comfortable family holiday.
