Guests say

Minnow Cottage is a charming riverside retreat in Newton Stewart, praised for its peaceful location, lovely views, and easy access to town and local walks. Guests appreciate the cosy log burner and dog-friendly atmosphere. While many enjoyed their stay and found the cottage comfortable, several noted that the property would benefit from improved maintenance and attention to detail, particularly outside. Despite some issues with cleanliness, hot water, and minor facilities, the cottage remains a popular base for exploring the beautiful surrounding area.

Reviews are mixed, with some guests finding the cottage clean and tidy, while others mention issues such as dust, peeling paint, weeds, and occasional lack of basic cleaning supplies. Bedding and bathroom cleanliness were also raised as concerns by a few guests.

The location is consistently praised for its riverside setting, tranquillity, and proximity to Newton Stewart's amenities, walks, and scenic spots. Guests highlight the ease of access to both nature and the town centre.

Many guests found the cottage cosy, especially with the log burner, and appreciated the comfortable bed. However, some mentioned issues with creaky beds, cold stone floors, and old or uncomfortable sofas, which affected their overall comfort.

Facilities are adequate for a relaxing stay, but several guests reported problems with hot water, heating, broken steps, and lack of kitchen essentials. Maintenance issues, such as non-working lights and tired furnishings, were frequently mentioned.

While some guests appreciated the supply of logs and helpful guest book, many noted a lack of basic provisions like toilet rolls, cleaning products, and starter packs for the log burner. No gifts were mentioned, and attention to guest needs was seen as inconsistent.

Regular maintenance is not happening. Outside paintwork is badly peeling ,vegetation including Japanese knotweed is out of control and the patio is surrounded by flood barriers and sandbags. Also hot water for shaving and dishwashing isn't available. Pictures online are not accurate. There is no blind at bathroom so no privacy ,as this looks on to neighbours garden. We had the recent heatwave and had a winter duvet on the bed. Other issues are greasy ovenware (possibly because of lack of hot water) , no oven gloves, tea towels, bin liners or washing -up liquid. Basically it's main attribute is its position beside the river and close to town.

Loved the location of the cottage by the river was lovely. Cottage lacked home comforts and lacked storage but still enjoyed our stay.

Cottage was very nice but felt it needed some TLC. Doorstep had tiles which were loose and just lying there so had to remove as a trip hazard and dead plants outside so not the best impression on arrival. Outside area was great beside the river but could have been nicer, get rids of weeds and maybe a plant or two with colour. The broken slate outside made the inside very dusty. We did have a problem with the shower door which came off, and on trying to call the property management company all week, there was only an answer message which was never replied to. Thankfully it wasn’t an emergency.Great location and the nearby hotel garden was lovely. Bed was comfortable and we had an enjoyable stay.
