About this property

Wigtown 4.7 miles. This charming detached cottage is accessed up a private driveway in a quiet, tranquil setting. Smithy Cottage is surrounded by countryside and woodland walking trails on the Machars Peninsula, close to Scotland's book town, Wigtown, and offers fantastic accommodation for a small family or group wanting to explore both the coast and countryside of this region of Scotland. Enter the property to find a cosy sitting room with a choice of two sofas to relax onto in front of the woodburning stove while enjoying watching the Freesat TV or a favourite film on the Blu-ray player. The kitchen/diner is decorated in neutral hues, offering plenty of space to prepare meals and is equipped with all the appliances you need to create lovely home-cooked meals that can be enjoyed together at the dining table. The conservatory offers and additional seating area, where you can curl up with a good book or just enjoy your tranquil setting. There is a ground-floor king-size bedroom overlooking the front of the property, along with a shower room with walk-in large shower. Head upstairs to find a further two bedrooms, both under the eaves, so with restricted head height in places and both with single beds, one of which has an additional pull out bed if required. Outside there is ample off-road parking available, plus an enclosed lawn to the rear with a gate that leads onto an acre of land, offering lovely countryside and woodland walks. The former Royal Burgh of Wigtown is a couple of miles away, best known for its annual book festival, where you will find a selection of shops, bookshops and eateries, as well as a golf club and a nature reserve. Explore the Machars Peninsula, which offers a coastline of 40 miles, ranging from mud flats to beaches and cliffs, while the town of Newton Stewart, better known as the gateway to the Galloway Hills due to its position on the fringes of the Galloway Forest Park, offers a museum, riverside walks along the Cree, a golf course and scenic woodland and nature reserves to explore. Smithy Cottage is a lovely property to base your next Scottish escape.

Wigtown is located at the head of the Machars Peninsula in Dumfries and Galloway. Best known as being Scotland’s National Book Town, Wigtown also has a range of cafés, pubs and restaurants. There are now more than 20 book related businesses in Wigtown where you can happily spend your days wandering from shop to shop in search of a bargain. The Machars Peninsula has a coastline of 40 miles which ranges from mud flats to beaches and cliffs.
