Guests say

Quarter Deck Gardens is a cottage with stunning views and a great location for exploring Glencoe and the Highlands. Guests appreciate the warm, comfortable bedrooms and the recently updated kitchen and bathroom. The property is undergoing refurbishment, which once complete, promises to enhance its appeal further.

Several reviews mention the property is not particularly clean, with grubby carpets and clutter. However, some guests found it clean and tidy, indicating inconsistency in cleanliness standards.

The location is highly praised for its stunning views and convenience to local attractions and amenities. It is close to shops, hiking trails, and scenic spots, making it an ideal base for exploring the area.

Guests find the beds comfortable and the cottage warm, providing a cosy stay. However, the presence of clutter and unfinished areas detracts from the overall comfort for some visitors.

The property boasts a new kitchen and bathroom, but several reviews highlight issues with maintenance, such as non-functioning appliances and unfinished plumbing. The garden and patio also require attention.

There is insufficient information to assess thoughtfulness as there are no consistent mentions of gifts or special touches provided by the host, apart from a mention of a half jar of coffee and an undated pack of shortbread fingers, which cannot be guaranteed for future guests.

The minute I opened the door I was met with a damp, foosty smell. Yuck!, it’s a pet friendly property and I’ve stayed in many, but this place is the smelliest and unclean house I’ve ever stayed in. The carpets are filthy with a thick layer of black dust and grime, hair and crumbs at the edge of every step on the stairs. It’s the same round the base of every skirting board in every room. Goodness knows what year the carpets were last hoovered. We read reviews before our holiday and contacted cottages.com as we had concerns. The owner said she’d received a couple of unfair reviews and the carpets weren’t that bad. So, unfortunately, we trusted that. The house is very dated and you can see the owner is trying to make improvements but it’s evident even basic cleanliness isn’t being achieved. On the living room 15 pane glass door you could easily see doggy nose prints all over so that hadn’t been cleaned. The mirrors in the bedroom and utility room were covered in dirty splashes. There’s a new kitchen which is lovely but the floor is old and grubby and it was covered in crumbs when we arrived. There were also food deposits on the fridge door handle and kitchen cupboards that I had to clean off! We had to burn fragranced candles to mask the musty smell over the house for the duration of our stay. There are loads of marks on every wall, the place is in need of some tlc. We drove a long way to get there and the main two reasons we stayed were 1) the bathroom was clean and 2) the bedding and towels were clean. I did report my concerns to *removed by Feefo* and provided them with photos and a video to support my complaint and they contacted the owner, but she didn’t respond. I wanted to discuss my concerns with her before providing a review so she could perhaps address some/all of my concerns. She obviously doesn’t care and she already has your cash by the time you arrive. The bathroom is modern but the bath isn’t plumbed in. The overall look is ruined by the mouldy roller blind on the window and the 15 pane door covered with a lace curtain. The microwave is disgusting. It is rusty inside and when you use it loads of water runs out when you open the door. Needs replacing. In bedroom upstairs, there’s an exposed screw on the wardrobe, creates a risk, which can be easily removed by fixing it. So many cleaning products in the kitchen under the sink but obviously not being used. Kitchen cupboard full of what looks like old kitchen things., clutter, untidy. I felt that this property had not had a thorough clean before we arrived and it needs a deep clean with the carpets being replaced. I can accept a property being dated, and wouldn’t automatically mark it down for that, but the smell, the uncleanliness merits this negative review. Unacceptable, and not good enough. Needless to say, but I will, I won’t be back.

We all enjoyed our stay at Quarterdeck Gardens, very warm, comfortable and a great place for walking and admiring the vi. It was situated in Glencoe where we were attending our Sons Wedding, very convenient for our trip. The property was quite large and comfortable and met our needs, providing accommodation for all guests including our 2 dogs. The driveway to the property is very narrow and sloping. Could be better designed.
