Mullach Ruadh is a highly praised holiday cottage, consistently described as comfortable, well-equipped, and beautifully located. Guests are delighted by the stunning views, the high-quality furnishings, and the thoughtful touches like fresh flowers and shortbread. The caretaker Angus receives special mention for his helpfulness and warm welcome. Despite minor comments on the driveway and heating instructions, the overall experience is one of luxury and comfort, making it a favourite destination for many.
The property is repeatedly commended for its spotless condition, with guests noting it as 'clean', 'spotlessly clean', and 'well-maintained'. This indicates a very high standard of cleanliness throughout the property.
The location is described as perfect, with stunning views and proximity to local attractions like the Glenfinnan Viaduct and steam train. Its setting allows for easy access to walks and day trips, contributing to its high rating.
Guests find the property very comfortable, mentioning the quality of the bedding, the spaciousness, and the cosy atmosphere. The presence of a log stove and comfortable seating areas enhances the comfort level.
The house is praised for being well-equipped with high-quality kitchenware, utensils, and appliances. However, some guests noted difficulty with underfloor heating and a desire for more instructions, slightly affecting the score.
Guests appreciate the thoughtful gestures such as fresh flowers, wine, chocolates, and shortbread. While these are warmly received, it is important to note that such personal touches, though common, are not guaranteed with every stay.
Sitting on a hill, surrounded by mature trees, shrubs and gardens, Mullach Ruadh is a comfortable cottage with stylish décor, perfect for families, couples or groups. The home is well-built, cosy any time of year, and spacious with a contemporary makeover designed by a Highlands artist/interior decorator. The entire front of the house – dining room, kitchen, living room, master bedroom – looks out to amazing mountain views. The living room is relaxation personified, with comfortable couches and chairs, a wood-burning stove TV and games, perfect for lounging, napping, reading, or gathering any time of the day or night.
The kitchen is perfectly situated in the heart of the home with beautiful mountain views and is large enough for guests to linger over a drink, a meal at the built-in bar, or to help with the cooking. Complete with a top-of-the-line gas cooker and double electric ovens, a large fridge, wine fridge, coffee maker, microwave, and all you’ll need to make sumptuous meals, guests will not find this kitchen lacking.
Open to and a few stairs down from the kitchen, the dining room is where the party often comes alive over a table that seats 8 – perfect for meals, games, puzzles, or planning out the next day’s excursions. In a small niche of the dining room, right by the patio doors, is a small snug perfect for reading or lazing the day away.
Set at the brink of Loch Shiel, the sleepy little village of Glenfinnan offers a fascinating history and is served by its own railway station, pub and tiny Post Office. Glenfinnan’s station doubles as the Glenfinnan Station Museum, which tells the tale of the West Highland Railway, with steam trains trundling by through the season. Also as this is the West Coast mainline, trains run daily from the village to Glasgow via Fort William and Glencoe and the line has been voted as being one of the most beautiful journeys in the world. Enjoy a scenic walk to the National Trust’s Glenfinnan Monument, where spectacular views across the loch and rising mountains can be enjoyed, followed by afternoon tea in the café, or cruise across the waters of Loch Shiel, with the opportunity to spot golden eagles flitting overhead. The area surrounding the village also offers a myriad of walking trails through vivid Highland scenery, with a variety of levels to suit many abilities. Nearby Fort William lies on the banks of Loch Linnhe, and offers a good selection of shops, and pubs serving a fine selection of meals. Ski enthusiasts will enjoy the Nevis Range, a ski resort with a mountain gondola, along with a World Cup mountain biking course. For a more relaxing break, why not take a tour of the Ben Nevis Whisky Distillery? Glenfinnan offers a peaceful location for exploring the best of the breathtaking West Highlands.
