The Shore is a beautifully presented and spacious cottage in a peaceful, stunning seaside location, offering spectacular views over the Moray Firth. Guests consistently praise its cleanliness, well-equipped kitchen, and homely atmosphere. The property is ideal for exploring the Black Isle, dolphin spotting, and enjoying coastal walks. While most found it comfortable and cosy, a few mentioned minor issues with some beds and living room furniture. Parking can be a little tight for larger vehicles. Overall, The Shore provides a memorable and relaxing stay, with many guests eager to return.
Cleanliness is frequently highlighted, with guests describing the property as spotless, very clean on arrival, and well-kept throughout. Only one or two minor mentions of marks on walls, but these did not detract from the overall impression.
The location is universally praised for its tranquillity, proximity to the sea, and beautiful views. Guests loved being able to walk to local shops, explore the Black Isle, and enjoy wildlife spotting right from the doorstep.
Most guests found the cottage comfortable, warm, and homely, with particular appreciation for the upstairs seating area and king-sized bed. However, a few noted that some sofas and beds (especially the downstairs mattress and single beds) could be improved for added comfort.
The cottage is described as extremely well-equipped, especially the kitchen, with everything needed for self-catering. Central heating and a wood-burning stove are appreciated. Minor issues included hot water recovery and window operation, but these were rare.
Guests felt the property was thoughtfully prepared, with high-quality appliances and a welcoming atmosphere. One review mentioned a bag of ground coffee provided after a query, but as gifts are not guaranteed, this cannot be expected for all stays.
The Shore is a traditional cottage that has been beautifully modernised to offer luxurious accommodation. Its location in wonderful Fortrose, right by the lapping shore of the Moray Firth is simply unbeatable.. Staycations honestly don’t come much better than The Shore in lovely Fortrose. It’s a dream of a holiday cottage and you will honestly love it.
Located in Fortrose, an historic, attractive Royal Burgh on the Black Isle, The Shore is a traditional cottage right beside the sea. A stone’s throw from the lapping Moray Firth, you have a very good chance of spotting bottlenose dolphins from the cottage - the resident pod that cruise these waters! The wee harbour of Fortrose is a slightly longer stone’s throw away and it’s where the sailing club is based. Within a few minutes’ walk you can be up a little footpath from The Shore and in the centre of charming Fortrose. A highlight is the amazing IV10 café/bar/deli that you’ll keep visiting during your stay - guaranteed!
The town is built around the beautiful red sandstone cathedral with current ruins dating back to the 1300s. Most of the building has fallen, but some fine architectural details do remain. Traditionally the seat of the bishops of Ross, Fortrose has seen a lot of wealth and therefore the buildings that make up the town are interesting and very attractive. It’s a lovely place to wander around. You’ll walk beyond the little town and explore Chanonry Ness, a sandy spit that juts out into the Moray Firth from Fortrose and the village of Rosemarkie a quarter of a mile to the north. The 15th oldest golf course in the world covers the spit and leads to the point where a Stevenson lighthouse stands.
Chanonry Point is the best spot to see the dolphins in these parts. The north side of the spit that leads back to Rosemarkie has a beautiful, long sandy beach. You can decide during your holiday which beach is your favourite: right outside the door of the cottage (at low tide!), or over in sandy Rosemarkie! Now you can stay at The Shore all week long and not venture far at all, but that would be a shame. You’re so very close to some amazing places in the Highlands. The Black Isle is on your doorstep and not far away the interior of the Scottish Highlands await exploration. Trailheads to Munros are within thirty minutes’ drive, and you can be in the Cairngorms National Park in 45 minutes. You also have lovely Inverness, the gateway to the Highlands only twenty minutes away.
The accommodation is finished to a very high standard. A historic cottage that has been modernised beautifully and perfect for a family to spend a week or two. We urge you to not hesitate in booking The Shore. It’s a truly fabulous holiday cottage that you’ll want to rebook as soon as you arrive! Pub within 1 mile..
