Guests say

Husabost Croft is consistently praised for its stunning location, cosy comfort, and well-equipped facilities. Guests describe it as a peaceful retreat with breathtaking views, ideal for wildlife watching and relaxation. The cottage's cleanliness and thoughtful touches, such as wine and whisky, contribute to its charm, although these gifts are not guaranteed. Despite some minor maintenance notes and access road concerns, the overall sentiment is overwhelmingly positive, with many longing to return.

Reviews indicate the cottage is very clean, with only one minor mention of dust in the shower room vent and under the sink area. The high standard of cleanliness contributes to the property's appeal.

The location is highly praised for its tranquility and stunning views over Loch Dunvegan. Despite some comments on the condition of the access road, the secluded setting is considered a highlight and adds to the property's desirability.

Guests find the cottage to be very comfortable, cosy, and a 'home from home'. The property is described as well-equipped for relaxation, even on rainy days, with spacious rooms and high-quality bedding.

The cottage is commended for its modern facilities and well-appointed kitchen. However, there is a minor point about the need for dusting in the shower room vent, which suggests room for improvement in maintenance.

While guests appreciate the welcoming touches such as wine and whisky, these gifts are mentioned inconsistently and are not guaranteed. Without sufficient information on other aspects of thoughtfulness, a score cannot be accurately provided.

About this property

Husabost Croft is a beautifully extended old crofting cottage in the remote settlement of Husabost north of Dunvegan.. Husabost Croft is the holiday home of your dreams. Perfectly located not only on one of the most awe-inspiring islands in the world, but also positioned in one of the best spots on the island. The far north west of Skye is a magical location. Beyond Dunvegan and towards Neist Point lighthouse there are small clusters of croft houses that have stood up against the wild winds that the Atlantic brings for centuries. Husabost Croft is one of these cottages, and it has been wonderfully renovated in 2010 and extended to offer a perfectly sized house for a family or couple of couples to enjoy the most memorable of holidays.

The long drive to Skye and to Husabost in the north is immediately worth it upon arrival. Meandering along the private driveway, you reach the house on its elevated croft plot, surrounded by windswept moorland on one side and the sea on the other. You can see Coral Beach just across the water, Dunvegan Castle in certain lights, and also the Cuillin mountains in the distance. Upon entering the property you are within the original part of the croft house, dating back to the 19th century. To the right there is the living room, which is double aspect, and the open fire is a bonus to warm yourself after exploring the island. Through the living room there is another door leading to the wrap-around extension. You enter into a second living area. If you thought the view from the first living room was good – this is truly outstanding. The second living room is open plan with the dining room and kitchen. It’s a great L-shape space that has patio doors out into the garden. The kitchen is finished to a very good standard and is farmhouse style with a lovely old butler sink and large pantry. The kitchen leads round to a utility room and downstairs shower room. Upstairs there is a large bathroom with perfectly placed bath with a wonderful view out to sea and towards the Cuillin. Either side of the bathroom is a good sized double bedroom.

The exterior of the property is perfect for kids and a dog to go exploring. It’s typically Highlands underfoot, with many a soft patch to submerge your foot within, so Wellington boots are an excellent choice. Beyond the property there are many walks to explore the surroundings. Glendale is only a short drive away or a bit of a hike over the hill by foot with its excellent café and tiny harbour where you can often see local fishing boats at work. Neist Pointis a little further on, so you can easily go a few evenings of your trip to watch the sunrise over the Minch and Outer Hebrides. The nearby village of Dunvegan has plenty to offer of interest including Dunvegan Castle with its stunning mature gardens and interesting history. A visit to Coral Beach through Dunvegan is a must where you may see seals basking in the shallow waters. A couple of very lucky visitors have also seen pods of dolphins in the loch below. Further afield there are a lifetime’s worth of things to do on Skye. Beach 11 miles. Shop 28 miles, pub 7 miles and restaurant 3 miles..

We had a fantastic holiday. We got married in Skye and staying here was just perfect. So comfortable with most outstanding views. I was so sad to leave. The house has everything you could need or want and the wine on arrival was just a perfect start to the holiday.

What a magical place this is! A view to die for and wildlife galore. On our first day we awoke to the most glorious sunrise which filled the sky with pink - a feast for the eyes. Then to top it off, that same day we were lucky enough to spot white tailed sea eagles from the comfort of the cottage. Over the next few days, we saw dolphins in the Loch and of course the visiting deer too! The cottage is very comfortable and well equipped with everything you could possibly need. The bottle of wine and wee drams of whisky are a lovely welcoming touch and were enjoyed in front of the cosy open fire, watching Sky Cinema. The dogs were happy too - so much wild space in the garden/land area to run around in and blow off steam (checking that the deer had vacated the garden first of course!) Highly recommend it here if you want to get away from it all and find your sanity again in the peace of nature. Thank you for letting us stay.

It was easy to find the cottage, using the location pin combined with the detailed instructions, provided by the owners ahead of the stay. The views from the back of the cottage are breathtaking, even with the weather in the way. We found ourselves being able to forget everything else and just relax even though it was just for a couple of days. The facilities within the the cottage are all modern and we found ourselves wanting for nothing. The rooms were spacious, for a cottage of that size. Everything was of a very high quality, including the bedding. We, unfortunately, did't have enough time to explore the surroundings, but would love to go back for a longer stay, hopefully in spring/summer. The owners where very accommodating with our circumstance, which was very much appreciated.
