Husabost Croft is a beautifully extended old crofting cottage in the remote settlement of Husabost north of Dunvegan.. Husabost Croft is the holiday home of your dreams. Perfectly located not only on one of the most awe-inspiring islands in the world, but also positioned in one of the best spots on the island. The far north west of Skye is a magical location. Beyond Dunvegan and towards Neist Point lighthouse there are small clusters of croft houses that have stood up against the wild winds that the Atlantic brings for centuries. Husabost Croft is one of these cottages, and it has been wonderfully renovated in 2010 and extended to offer a perfectly sized house for a family or couple of couples to enjoy the most memorable of holidays.
The long drive to Skye and to Husabost in the north is immediately worth it upon arrival. Meandering along the private driveway, you reach the house on its elevated croft plot, surrounded by windswept moorland on one side and the sea on the other. You can see Coral Beach just across the water, Dunvegan Castle in certain lights, and also the Cuillin mountains in the distance. Upon entering the property you are within the original part of the croft house, dating back to the 19th century. To the right there is the living room, which is double aspect, and the open fire is a bonus to warm yourself after exploring the island. Through the living room there is another door leading to the wrap-around extension. You enter into a second living area. If you thought the view from the first living room was good – this is truly outstanding. The second living room is open plan with the dining room and kitchen. It’s a great L-shape space that has patio doors out into the garden. The kitchen is finished to a very good standard and is farmhouse style with a lovely old butler sink and large pantry. The kitchen leads round to a utility room and downstairs shower room. Upstairs there is a large bathroom with perfectly placed bath with a wonderful view out to sea and towards the Cuillin. Either side of the bathroom is a good sized double bedroom.
The exterior of the property is perfect for kids and a dog to go exploring. It’s typically Highlands underfoot, with many a soft patch to submerge your foot within, so Wellington boots are an excellent choice. Beyond the property there are many walks to explore the surroundings. Glendale is only a short drive away or a bit of a hike over the hill by foot with its excellent café and tiny harbour where you can often see local fishing boats at work. Neist Pointis a little further on, so you can easily go a few evenings of your trip to watch the sunrise over the Minch and Outer Hebrides. The nearby village of Dunvegan has plenty to offer of interest including Dunvegan Castle with its stunning mature gardens and interesting history. A visit to Coral Beach through Dunvegan is a must where you may see seals basking in the shallow waters. A couple of very lucky visitors have also seen pods of dolphins in the loch below. Further afield there are a lifetime’s worth of things to do on Skye. Beach 11 miles. Shop 28 miles, pub 7 miles and restaurant 3 miles..

It was easy to find the cottage, using the location pin combined with the detailed instructions, provided by the owners ahead of the stay. The views from the back of the cottage are breathtaking, even with the weather in the way. We found ourselves being able to forget everything else and just relax even though it was just for a couple of days. The facilities within the the cottage are all modern and we found ourselves wanting for nothing. The rooms were spacious, for a cottage of that size. Everything was of a very high quality, including the bedding. We, unfortunately, did't have enough time to explore the surroundings, but would love to go back for a longer stay, hopefully in spring/summer. The owners where very accommodating with our circumstance, which was very much appreciated.

This is a beautiful cottage sat high above the loch with wonderful views. It is away from the hustle and bustle that Skye can be during the tourist season. It is very much a home from home with everything you need for a relaxing and enjoyable break. The wine and whisky was a lovely touch as well. Highly recommended.
