Located beyond Kinlochbervie and near to the trail head to one of Scotland’s best beaches, Sandwood Bay, 269 Drumnaguie is at the end of its own track with views out to the North Atlantic. Sandwood Bay beach is a four mile walk along the John Muir Trust maintained footpath, but from the cottage it’s only a ten minute walk down to Polin Beach, which is a gem of a sandy beach and so much quieter than its more famous neighbour. There are several other sandy beaches within a couple of miles of the cottage and it’s possible to walk to them all across the headlands. This area is managed by the John Muir Trust, it’s the Sandwood Estate, and is made up of wild land as well as crofting land. The cottage is part of a croft and there will be sheep strolling through the grounds, so it’s very important that if you are brining a dog that they are happy to coexist with the locals!

The Sandwood Estate is rich in flora and fauna, the sea cliffs near to the cottage are nesting sites for fulmars, guillemots, razorbills, shags and even puffins. The coastline between the beaches of Sheigra and Oldshoremore - which includes "your" beach of Polin- has the best example of Machair on mainland Scotland with over 200 species of plant, including 8 orchids. The area is also part of the North West Geopark and is a registered Dark Skies location. This remote spot is a magical place to spend a week, two or three as many people have done over the years. Due to its remoteness there is a policy whereby guests must leave the cottage how they find it and also bring duvets, towels and linens for their stay. Pillows and blankets are provided.

The accommodation itself is spacious, benefitting greatly from the barn annexe attached to the cottage. The cottage has the most wonderful, characterful interiors. There are beautiful artworks throughout and the rustic vibe goes perfectly with the building and landscape. Drumnaguie House offers simple holiday living, a Highland cottage getaway of old if you will. With no Wi-Fi and no TV, it’s a digital detox. Many people will thrive in this place reading books, walking beach-to-beach and swimming in the sea.
