Croftbank offers a great location in what is a wonderful part of Arran. Stunning scenery and first class wildlife. The cottage has a very well equiped & designed kitchen, comforable seating, comfy bedrooms & tasteful decoration blending the nostalgic, historical & contemporary all together. Plus all windows look out across the loch and its northern hillslopes. The doorstep amenities available are what you need for a holiday, country house pub: distillery: teashop/cafe: a leisurely golf course and numerous walks of most grades. A grocery shop is lacking however the village store at Pirnmill approx 7 miles down the west coast sells most everything you possibly need. This cottage is a great base for this magical island.

Croftbank proved to be a disappointment to me and two friends who rented it 6th - 13th June 2025. The property was not as advertised and the owner faied to notify us about the changes before we arrived. She did not respond to two emails from us sent during our holiday to point out the deficiencies. We feel that the owner did not fulfill her part of the contract between us.What were the problems?MAIN PROBLEM:- The main sitting/dining room had been flooded and was still under repair.- In that room the walls were mainly bare plaster with remains of wallpaper, the floor of new screeded concrete with two rugs on it, the coving incomplete. It was dismal.- What made that room unusuable was that the wood-burning stove was disconnected from the chimney and therefore usefless.- The electric heating system is state of the art and we found it too complicated to operate during our stay. (see more comments below).- Because we couldn't use that room, we had to move the dining table and chairs into the smaller room between the front vestible and the kitchen, where there is a working wood-burner. - We could not eat in the kitchen because the breakfast bar seats only two people and there are only two high stools for it.MORE PROBLEMS:- There are no instruction manuals for any appliancs or equipment in the house apart from on how to light the wood-burner in the smaller sitting room.- This meant that we were unable to fully use the washer/dryer (couldn't get it to dry). Additionally it took time and effort to work out how to use the cooking hob. The dishwasher had no instructions either.- We could not work out how to operate the electric heating system.FINALLY:- The inside of the fridge had been cleaned with a highly-scented cleaning product. The small persisted throughout our week-long stay. It tainted dairy products, especially milk, and anything else that was not tightly covered with cling film/aluminium foil.SUMMARY:We were disappointed by the inconveniences listed above. On the other hand, the cottage is well-equipped and the bed linen etc is good quality. The location is superb and the standard of cleanliness high.
