Pitlochry, a charming Victorian burg in Perth and Kinross, has been attracting tourists ever since Queen Victoria stopped by in 1842. The town's location between the Ben Vrackie and Schiehallion mountains makes it ideal for hillwalking, and the River Tummel is beautiful, with a scenic dam and boat hire (or you can just watch the action while sipping a hot beverage at the Boating Station Café). Golfers and nature lovers will enjoy the nearby Tay Forest Park and Tay River, while cyclists and hikers will appreciate the proximity of the dramatic Cairngorms National Park. The town is home to a variety of shops and restaurants, and it also hosts festivals throughout the year. There's something for everyone in Blair Athol, what with the distillery and all. With its stunning buildings, abundance of services, and interesting attractions like its museum and art gallery, Perth is a fantastic day trip destination.
