Guests say

The Coach House is a cosy, well-equipped cottage ideal for couples seeking a relaxing break in the Scottish Borders. Guests consistently praise its cleanliness, welcoming owners, and convenient location close to village amenities and scenic walks. The property is pet-friendly, though some guests noted restrictions on garden access for dogs. While most found the cottage comfortable and homely, a few mentioned minor maintenance issues and the small bathroom. Thoughtful touches from the owners, such as welcome packs and celebratory gifts, were appreciated by some guests. Overall, the cottage offers a charming base for exploring the area.

Most guests found the cottage very clean and tidy, with several specifically highlighting its cleanliness and well-kept appearance. A few reviews mentioned minor issues such as dusty areas or tired furnishings, but these were exceptions rather than the norm.

The location is frequently praised for its proximity to village amenities, beautiful countryside, and ease of access to both the Scottish Borders and Northumberland. Guests appreciated the convenience of local shops and the peaceful village setting.

The majority of guests described the cottage as cosy and comfortable, with warm interiors and a homely feel. Some noted the small bathroom, sloping bedroom ceiling, and tired lounge seating as drawbacks, but overall comfort was rated positively.

The cottage is generally well-equipped, with a fully stocked kitchen and essentials provided. However, some guests mentioned the lack of a washing machine, limited lighting in the kitchen, and occasional maintenance issues such as worn towels or furniture.

Several guests appreciated thoughtful gestures such as milk in the fridge, dog welcome packs, and celebratory gifts. However, these touches are not guaranteed for every stay, as a few guests noted missing or forgotten welcome packs.

About this property

A semi-detached, stone-built cottage, converted from a stable block, on the main street of the village of Chirnside, Berwickshire, close to Berwick-upon-Tweed. Set in the grounds of the owner's home, this welcoming Scottish cottage in the Borders offers a charming interior, ideal for a romantic break or for exploring the beaches, cliffs, coastline and history of this peaceful location. After parking up on the roadside, head into the cottage where you can unwind on the plush sofa in the living room while your partner pampers you with a delicious meal prepared in the well-equipped kitchen/diner. Savour the meal together at the intimate dining table where you can pop open a bottle of fizz to toast your romantic getaway or step outside to the private patio where you can indulge in an alfresco affair with the help of the barbecue.

When the sky darkens over Chirnside head back inside to enjoy a soothing soak in the bathroom before sloping off for a restful sleep in the sumptuous king-size bed. Enjoy a romantic retreat at The Coach House. Note: This property can be booked with Ref. 1171641, together sleeping up to 9 guests.

Chirnside takes its name from the ancient Cairn that stood on a hill to the east of the village. It is perched on the ridge between the historic, walled town of Berwick-on-Tweed and Duns, overlooking the Tweed Valley and the distant Cheviots. The village itself is incredibly picturesque and prides itself on its many beautiful gardens. 8 miles away, you'll find the glorious, sandy beaches of Coldingham and Eyemouth, with its working harbour. Nearby attractions also include Maderston, Mellerstain, Paxton House and Ayton Castle. The grounds of the Hirsel ad Duns Castle Estate are also open to the public, as is St Abbs Head; a nature reserve run by the National Trust. The River Tweed provides fantastic opportunities for fishermen, walkers and bird-watchers and there is much evidence of the region's historic and turbulent past to be found in the spectacular countryside.

Agnes and Bob were very helpful. Chirnside is a great place for touring the Scottish Borders and Northern England.

It's said that there is a private/secluded seating area, there isn't, also on my first night coming down the stairs to use the bathroom I slipped on the second step due to it being highly varnished, I did pass this on to the cleaner who collected our keys and showed her my bruises, was told they were awaiting treads ,recommended maybe they lightly sand them to make less slippy, otherwise we enjoyed our stay.

Hoping there is a space close by. Couple of things that could be upgraded, the Towels in the Bathroom, they had seen better days, and should be replaced in my mind, Second, the Sofa's springs have gone and it needs replacing, hence the 8 or so cushions on sofa, observations not criticism, Clean and tidy place. Thank you.
