Each summer, the Jim Clark Rally, the only 'closed roads' race on mainland Britain, takes place in and around Chirnside as a memorial to the village's home born champion. Just 9 miles away lies the charming, coastal town of Berwick, boasting narrow streets enclosed within Elizabethan walls, excellent shopping and dining facilities and an interesting arts centre. Set in a quiet leafy environment, with fenced containment ideal for our 2dogs, really ticked all the boxes for us. It had all the items you needed; fridge/freezer, washing m/c, dishwasher, oven and microwave. The surroundings really helped us to unwind and we felt well rested by the end of the week. When we had a minor problem they sorted it out really quickly and couldn't have been more helpful. Visits to local places were usually less than an hour away. Looking forward to a return visit next year.

Only the sound of birds and a distant combine harvester to be heard. Comfortable beds and well stocked kitchen and welcome tray of tea, coffee and biscuits. There is a lovely pub about a mile up the road. The property is in an ideal location to explore the Borders. Minor issues were resolved quickly. However, overall maintenance of issues reported in previous reviews had not been dealt with. Dripping taps were shown to the owner, one even stopped working. There is a shower over the bath, but we used the ensuite because there was no shower curtain and the wall is plaster board above part tiled walls. The steps up to the house are fairly steep and a handrail would be helpful for the older person. This was suggested in person to the owner. It is a lovely location and with some TLC, attention to detail and minor upgrades, could be outstanding.

Welcome back good. Front bedroom floor extremely creaky and woke people up during the night. Water pressure very low. Information pack ok but would have been useful to list where the nearest recycling for glass was. Would recommend the Allanton inn for food.Paxton house and The Hirsel worth a visit especially if you have dogs a there are lovely walks at both.
