The town of Girvan has not just a beautiful beach but also shops, a leisure centre with pool, children’s play park, a lovely promenade with views of the famous Ailsa Craig, and a harbour where day trips to Ailsa Craig for bird watching or fishing can be taken. The Ayrshire Coastal Path, a 100-mile long coastal walk, runs along this route and has one of the finest panoramic coastlines in the British Isles. The world famous Turnberry golf and spa resort is 10 minutes away and spa treatments can be booked in advance. Culzean Castle, owned by the National Trust for Scotland, is spectacular and is well worth a visit, as is Dumfries House. The islands of Cumbrae and Arran are all easily reached for a day out, while day trips to Ireland can be taken from Cairnryan. The pretty towns of Troon, Prestwick and Ayr are only a short drive with very good rail links for a trip to the cosmopolitan city of Glasgow and also historic Edinburgh. Loch Lomond and the Trossachs National Park is an hour’s drive away and is well worth a visit. Beach 300 yards. Shop, pub and restaurant 100 yards.
