It’s a traditional croft house set within a village where crofting life is still widely practiced.

Considered by many to be the most beautiful village on the island, you’ll immediately agree when you come over the brow of the hill and see Lemreway for the first time. From the house, you look out to sea beyond the island of Eilean Liubhaird (where Bonnie Prince Charlie hid in early May 1746 after fleeing Culloden), and you can easily spot the Shiant Islands, the Isle of Skye and the mainland. There’s so much to see on Lewis and Harris that you’ll want to be out and about almost every day. Things not to miss are the Callanish Standing Stones, Gearrannan Blackhouse Village, Uig Bay, the Butt of Lewis Lighthouse, Stornoway, the Harris hills and famous white sandy beaches.

With all the adventures you’ll no doubt enjoy, you will be looking forward to returning to Lemreway and the comfort of The Nicolson House. It has been designed and renovated in 2021 to offer fantastic accommodation for a family or group of friends.

Entering the house, you have a choice of two front doors. The furthest door to the left is most convenient because you enter into the kitchen/dining/utility room. Also on the ground floor, in the heart of the home is a cosy yet spacious sitting room with an open fire, electric wood burner, TV and selection of books. There’s a double bedroom and the family bathroom on the ground floor too. On the first floor there are two twin bedrooms. And all three bedrooms have armchairs and views out across the village, the harbour and out to sea.

There’s a separate steep staircase to the sitting room above the kitchen/dining/utility room. It’s a great space and has a perfectly positioned writing desk by the window to take in the view. There is also an double sofa bed (for flexible sleeping arrangements).

Outside there’s an enclosed garden with a sauna for guests to use after longs days out exploring, or simply just after days relaxing, reading in the house.

A lovely house in an incredible location. It's a long way from anywhere, including shops and amenities, so make sure you're prepared with plenty of supplies, but such a beautiful and peaceful location.

Absolutely loved our stay here. The location was perfect for us, very quiet and scenic. The local villagers are very friendly. Just be aware that it is a little off the beaten track but it's definitely worth it. We never got bored of the scenery on our drives out anyway. The house itself is very spacious, clean, comfortable and well equipped. The owner is very friendly, informative and helpful. Lots of sheep, rabbits and even some deer in the mornings for neighbours. There is so much to see and do on the Outer Hebrides. The wildlife spotting opportunities are endless. We even managed to spot a humpback off Tiumpan head with binoculars. The ferry across itself is like a dolphin and whale watching trip! There is also plenty to see for history fans. The Outer Hebrides all in all has been one of my all time favourite holidays. One tip. Don't head straight to Tesco at Stornoway from the ferry. Go do something else for an hour or so as it's absolute chaos!

We had a great week in Lewis & Harris and the house is a fantastic base. A little more remote than we had thought, but well worth the drive - very spacious and comfortable and a great place to come back to in the evening. Great views all around from a really well appointed house. We'd really recommend it and the owner was helpful and communicative. Only small point was that the comfortable bed is a double and a bit tight for two people 6ft + (as we are), but it's a tiny niggle.... Great place and a very enjoyable holiday.
