Borve 1 mile. Settled into the remote countryside of Barvas, near Borve on the Isle of Lewis in the Outer Hebrides. Marabhat Lodge 2 gazes over the rugged scenery of the island. Sleeping two guests, this lodge is perfect for a romantic couple getaway for those who wish to explore the history and scenery of the island before coming home to an inviting bed. Quaint and tasteful, a wooden lodge welcomes you home from a long day of exploring, offering convenient off-road parking and an attractive building for you to settle into for the evening. Upon entering the lodge, you will notice that the whole space, except the bathroom, is open plan, making this the perfect economical getaway for anyone who wishes for a relaxing place to sleep, but will spend most of their holiday exploring the many attractions on offer. Painted white, with tweed decorations and local artwork to connect the lodge to the island's heritage, a sloping ceiling gives the impression of a traditional wooden lodge, and you will be able to utilise the amply fitted kitchen to create a splendid evening meal for two, serving it on the dining table, and as this lodge has everything you would need in one small, but by no means cramped space, you will be able to walk through to a king-size bedroom. Here there is a beautiful piece of artwork featuring a tree, that complements the space beautifully, as well as a TV for evening relaxation. Wishing to wash the sand from your hair after a long day on the beach, the handy shower room will help you refresh, demonstrating that although small, this lodge will supply you with all of the holiday essentials. Morning breakfasts can be had outside, making the most of the fresh air on the wooden decking area overlooking the scenery and offering two outdoor sofas and a bench and table for guests to enjoy. With such an amazing location, there is no shortage of things to do in the Isle of Lewis, including a range of stunning sandy beaches, enjoy a couple’s picnic whilst listening to the relaxing crash of the waves, or try out wild-swimming, watersports and beachside walks, with one such beach being the well-known Eoropie Beach. With such a rich culture and history throughout the island, the lodge offers a perfect base to visit a variety of historical sites, including the Butt of Lewis lighthouse and geological site with some of the oldest stone in Europe, Calanais Standing Stones and visitors' centre and a selection of museums including Comunn Eachdraidh Nis. Drive over to the nearby village of Port of Ness to find a variety of shops, pubs, cafes for example The Wobbly Dog of Lewis, and harbour walks, allowing you to indulge in the scenery and the wildlife of the area. Stornoway is also an easy drive away, offering local tweed, pottery and craft shops. With so much to explore, Marabhat Lodge 2 will make the perfect base for your wildnerness adventure. The islands can be reached by flights from Edinburgh, Glasgow or Inverness; or by ferry from Uig on Skye to Tarbert, or Ullapool to Stornoway.
With an intriguing little harbour backed by a jagged headland, merging into an east-facing beach, the Port of Ness rests at the northern tip of the Isle of Lewis. Offering an insight into the legends, lore and long-observed traditions that have shaped the island’s identity, this community, in the Outer Hebrides of Scotland, is a stronghold of the Gaelic language. Harbour View Gallery is where you will find some of locally-based artist Anthony J Barber's works on view. Cross boasts an inn that looks slightly out of place, along with one of the brightest and most cheerful looking post offices you'll find anywhere. From the nearby Butt of Lewis you can look out across the unforgiving waters of the Atlantic and stand in the shadow of a Stevenson lighthouse built of red brick. Take in the breath-taking scenery from the Isle of Lewis' northernmost point, surrounded by the swells of an ever-rising sea. The Butt of Lewis features some of the oldest rocks in Europe, having been formed in the Precambrian period. Discover Dùn Èistean, an archaeological site on the north east coast, showcasing the ruins of two large buildings amongst grassy tussocks. Stornoway is just 40 minutes away by car, with a busy working harbour, selection of shops selling local gifts including Harris Tweed and award-winning restaurants selling locally sourced food. Visit Lews Castle Grounds and the iconic Lews Castle as well as museums and art galleries. This beautiful location is for those looking to get out and explore the rural landscapes and fascinating Scottish heritage the Isle of Lewis has to offer.
