About this property

Pontyates 3.8 miles. Resting in the Welsh countryside in Five Roads, near Pontyates in Dyfed, is this beautiful, detached house, Tan Y Dderw. Offering a family of five a rural escape, this pet-friendly abode has everything you need for outdoor adventures, along with off-road parking, a spacious garden for little ones to play, and easy access to the coast. Inside, you'll find a farmhouse kitchen with contemporary amenities, including an electric oven, hob, washing machine, and plenty of preparation space for home cooking. Gather your loved ones around the table for five to catch up on the day's adventures over dinner. Next door, the utility has an extra fridge and washing machine to keep sandy towels and walking gear fresh. The spacious sitting room is perfect for a family movie night in front of the Smart TV with cushioned sofas, as well as a quiet corner to relax with a book by the electric fire. To the rear, a multi-level garden is sure to please on sunny days where you can play on the lawn or savour a glass of wine, whilst your faithful canine rests their paws. Freshen up in the cloakroom or head upstairs to the family bathroom for a relaxing soak in the bath or walk-in shower, all the while your towel warms on the heated towel rail. You'll find three spacious bedrooms, furnished with storage space and homely decor, including a king-size, triple bunk, and twin to suit a variety of groups. Tan Y Dderw is surrounded by luscious countryside for walking, cycling, and escaping the hustle and bustle; there are a selection of traditional pubs close by to dine out such as The Waun Wyllt Inn, The Stag, and the Square & Compass in Pontyates, where you'll also find a convenience store. Start your holiday by exploring the town of Kidwelly, home to the historic Kidwelly Castle (Castell Cydweli) and the picturesque Kidwelly Quay and is close to the Glyn Abbey Golf Club. Along the coast, you'll find Llanelli where you can marvel at locally made pottery at Parc Howard Museum, follow dog-friendly paths along Sandy Water Park, and discover protected lagoons at WWT Llanelli Wetland Centre where you'll spot a variety of bird life. Visits to the award-winning Pembrey Country Park are also a must, boasting golden sandy beaches, and a wealth of family-friendly amusements, from toboggan rides and dry ski slopes to crazy golf and adventure play areas. There's plenty to do in the town of Carmarthen, from Carmarthen Castle to the Oriel Myrddin Gallery, or perhaps you'd prefer wandering the tropical glasshouse at the National Botanic Garden of Wales a short drive away? Further north, you'll find a range of attractions celebrating local heritage at the National Trust's Paxton's Tower, the ruins of Dryslwyn Castle, and the fabulous, 12th-century Dinefwr Castle and Dinefwr Museum, surrounded by parkland. For a day in the city, Swansea has something for the whole family to enjoy, whilst a range of activities await in the rolling hills of the Bannau Brycheiniog National Park (Brecon Beacons National Park).

Pontyates is a small community in the Gwendraeth Valley, halfway between Carmarthen and Llanelli, including a shop, Post Office, pub, garage, and fish and chip business. Shopping visits, film or theatre evenings, a steam ride, days on sandy beaches, golfing, and even a day at the races - both horses and vehicles - are all easily accessible from this village. A lovely section of Wales to visit at any time of year.

The house was a great base for days out, as well as the odd day we stayed in. Hosts were helpful and welcoming. Highly recommend.

We had a lovely few days and the kindness and empathy we were shown by Eileen and Mark when our dog became ill was heartwarming. It is a real home from home, spotless and well equipped, the stair gate was ideal to stop the dog from exploring upstairs! Nothing was too much trouble for our hosts, the fan was a godsend! The location was perfect and the views from the top fields are beautiful ! It was a pleasure to stay here and meet you both, thank you.
