What our customers say about their holidays

  • Vicki - Verified booking

Have booked before with Sykes and think we have been very spoilt with the accomodation we have previously stayed in.

Ffynnonlwyd Cottage itself was adequate, however, I do feel the bathroom was in need of some TLC. Realised on reflection that no photo was available of the shower and when we stayed here, we understand why. The shower itself was actually very good and powerful but the enclosure was very small and a little run down. I am of a large build and did struggle getting in and out, even my partner with a smaller frame still found this a little restricting in space. There is so much room in the bathroom to make something so much better than what is available. The bedding was very simple and did have a couple of stains on as did a couple of the towels. A few cobwebs which always makes me on edge when staying at an property however the kitchen was spotless. The hottub was the main reason for booking as we always like to relax in one after a good days walking. We couldnt fault this. Hot and well maintained , just a shame we couldnt use it after our very long journey on arrival. Someone already mentioned the steps to the garden and I agree they are extremely slippery as was the decking, some parts covered in algae. Although after coming back on our second day,we noticed the steps had been washed and the decking had been attempted to be cleaned also. The finer detail and little touches which could have made such a difference was lacking.A small welcome basket with tea coffee and sugar was provided but just my personal opinion,Condiments would have been a little touch that could have been available at the cottage. There is no salt or pepper. There was a small bin in the bathroom but no liner or any type of small bags that ladies need to have available . The plumbing and toilet is on a macerator so you could not flush certain things so these sanitary bags would have been extremely helpful and handy. We sadly never got to light the log fire as there was nothing there to light the fire and we wasnt met by the owner until he said hello on our last day as we were leaving. I guess we could have knocked at the house to ask for some fire lighters. All that being said, we had a lovely break away and enjoyed our stay in Wales. The cottage is ideally situated to visit some beautiful places.

We have just return from a week at The cottage and it was amazing.

Exactly as described. A lovely little cottage on a working farm. Our first impressions when entering the farm was how clean and well maintained it was. Haydn and Sian were so welcoming and showed us around their gorgeous gardens. The children were thrilled to be welcomed by little old Jim the dog every day and we even got to see baby cows in the small field behind the cottage. The accommodation was perfect. Clean, spacious with everything we needed and the added bonus of a washing machine to freshen up our beach towels and the children’s clothes. The hot tub was amazing and never lost its heat. You can tell it is well maintained. The patio area is full of plants and the view out of the kitchen window of Hayden and Sian’s flowers is beautiful. Even on the first day when it was a bit rainy it did not dampen our spirits as the cottage is so lovely. Haydn bought us logs for the log burner so we could have a cosy evening by the log burner after a dip in the undercover hot tub and take in the idealic peace of being in the countryside. We loved that (like the surrounding area) the garden was on multiple levels (which were easily accessible by our children and mother in law) as it allowed us to take in the great surrounding views. The local town St Clears has great shops to get fresh food including butchers and a bakers and several pubs, restaurants and takeaways. The cottage is in an easy drive of many local attractions for both kids and adults. During our time we visited beaches at Saundersfoot, Amroth, Pendine and Tenby. We took a boat ride from Tenby to an amazing island. When the weather was not as sunny we visited Camarthen indoor market and walked around several fantastic castles. We also had a great day at the National Botanic Gardens of Wales. On our final day we took the children to Heatherton World of Adventures. All these places we would highly recommend. We definitely hope to be back as the accommodation was perfect and we still have lots more places to explore. Thank-you Haydn and Sian …… Ps this kids are missing Jim the dog already

The sealant around the shower needs replacing, black mould in a small area.

The crockery needs replacing as several plates have chips out of them. There were crumbs around the cooker and dust under the beds on arrival. There were no instructions on how to put the heating on and there was no kindling left or enough logs to light the wood burner even once. Instructions on how to get the water in the shower hot would have been helpful instead of having to call the owner. Recommendations of places to eat further afield would have been helpful as the local pubs were not serving food the nights we tried. The welcome basket would have been a nice thought had the coffee not been rock hard so obviously not been checked before we arrived. We also didn't discover this basket until two days after we arrived as the free newspaper of things to do had been placed on top of it. Our first experience of a cottage holiday will not be repeated

A very spacious and comfortable bungalow, with a lovely garden and little stream running around it , which sounds lovely in the evening.

Opposite is a collection of sheep, ducks, geese and chickens, with fresh eggs available for a small charge. Spacious bedrooms and comfy beds . A generous living space with a suntrap patio with seating and chimnea, which was well used with the weather we had !! . Might be useful for hooks on backs of doors to hang towels and dressing gowns ? . We had a wonderful stay and even had a Sunday roast in The Royal oak pub , a nice stroll about 10 mins , but need strong legs to climb the very steep hill!! , but at least its all downhill on way back !! . Good communication with Peter, the owner. Many thanks for letting us stay in your lovely bungalow.

There was no mention in the description that the bathroom ran on a macherator system, which would have caused me to disregard this cottage completely, as both myself and my daughter have a phobia about toilets and plumbing in general.

Second bedroom had no window, to compensate a glass door with a net curtain was used to bring natural light in. However, straight outside this door, the passage has an automatic light that comes on and off as you pass, waking them up. One of the beds in the twin room was rock hard, leaving my daughter taking pain killers. The garden was up really steep steps and there should have been a fence around it to stop the dog trying to jump down such a steep drop. Hot tub not hot enough toward end of week. There was a leak under bathroom sink, after we told owner he came straight away to fix it. However, it didn't fix the problem.
