Llanfyllin, a picturesque village in the heart of the Cain Valley between the Berwyn Mountains and the rolling hills, has a wide variety of stores where you may stock up on necessities. Y Dolydd, a workhouse from the early 19th century that was featured in the BBC programme Restoration, is located in this area, which is designated as an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and features a wide range of building types. Take advantage of the superb hiking and biking in the Berwyn Mountains and the surrounding hills of Llangynog. The beautiful Lake Vyrnwy, with its colourful mountains in the background and fascinating nature reserve, is conveniently close, and the lively market town of Welshpool, with its many stores, art galleries, and excellent eateries, is only 14 miles distant. Powys Castle and its renowned gardens are within within reach, as is the equally impressive Llanrhaeadr Waterfall, which plunges from a height of 240 feet and is surrounded by enchanted woods and towering cliffs. An ideal base from which to explore the scenic areas of Mid Wales and the neighbouring county of Shropshire.
