About this property

Coach House is a charming retreat situated in a stunning but hidden part of Wales, nestled into the foothills of the Cambrian mountains, which recently featured in a BBC documentary called “the last wilderness of Wales”. Here, you have all the beauty of neighbouring national parks but without the crowds. Yet, we are within driving distance of the coast of Aberaeron for whale watching, Bannau Brycheiniog National Park, a slightly short drive to the dark sky zone of the Elan Valley (although our skies are equally dark), and wild swimming in Abergwesyn. But being located inside the Lofftwen Forest Farm Ecological Project, there is no need to get in the car with private access to 320 acres of restoring wildlife habitat to explore from your doorstep, and many miles of rarely travelled footpaths and bridleways beyond, all bristling with nature and stunning views. And because every penny you spend here is reinvested back into the Lofftwen Project, your stay at the Coach House will have directly contributed to restoring the habitats you are walking through. Despite feeling like you’re in the middle of nowhere, local shops, pubs, train station and an award-winning restaurant are only a short walk along a grassy track. It’s the best of all worlds. With off-road parking for four cars, partial ground-floor living, two woodburning stoves, a games room, wood fired hot tub, and welcoming two well-behaved pets, this delightful property is perfect for families or friends seeking a tranquil escape amidst breathtaking natural beauty. Park up the cars outside this large countryside abode, a former Victorian Coach House and laundry built in the Arts and Crafts tradition. The heart of the home is the kitchen/diner, fully equipped for all your culinary needs. Adjacent to this, the dining room comfortably seats ten guests, making it the perfect spot for enjoying home-cooked meals. The characterful sitting room, complete with comfy sofas, Smart TV and woodburning stove, provides a warm space for relaxation. The games room, located in the west stable block and former laundry, is equipped with table tennis, pool table, and various other games that are sure to provide hours of entertainment. This room is completed with woodburning stove, rug and plush bean bags. When it is time to get some rest, you will be greeted by a spacious king-size bedroom on the ground floor, boasting a light and airy atmosphere. Next door is a wet room with walk in shower, basin and WC. Ideal for those in the group with limited mobility. Ascend the stair to find another king-size bedroom, complete with a generous en-suite featuring a walk-in shower, basin and WC for your convenience. The master super king-size bedroom offers a unique touch with doors leading out to a private balcony, perfect for enjoying a morning coffee or an evening drink. Next door is a dressing room and ensuite with freestanding bath, walk-in shower, WC and basin. The second floor also houses a flexible king-size/twin bedroom, whose bathroom, which is just across the corridor, has a bath, shower-over, basin and WC. All rooms are beautifully finished with rustic wooden flooring. For further relaxation, the snug offers a sofa bed, ideal for extra guests, as well as an additional TV, writing desk and library. The enclosed garden area by the kitchen features a patio and lawn area, complete with furniture and a barbecue for those warm summer evenings. Here, you will also find the wood-fired hot tub and summer house. Outside this enclosed garden area is another 3 acres of gardens to explore, including a pond and additional picnic seating area, newly planted orchard, and a croquet lawn. For the more adventurous, head up the track to discover the many walks through the 320 acres of rewilding farm and new forest planting. Venture further afield and discover the ancient National Trust Dolaucothi Gold Mines, offering guided tours to relive the archaeological wonders of the Roman history. Take a trip to the Brecon Cathedral, a place of tranquillity and worship, originating from the 4th century, to marvel at its spectacular architecture that stands as testament to history. Visit the picturesque Caban Coch Dam, which holds breath-taking views fitting for a family picnic or an intimate romantic setting. The stunning backdrop that the Caban Coch Dam offers completes the absolute calmness of your Welsh adventure. Uncover the beauty of Powys, making the Coach House the unforgettable cornerstone of your exploration.

Llanwrtyd Wells is a delightful spa town resting between Llanwrtyd and Cefn-gorwydd. The town is known for its spring water and quirky activities, including Bog Snorkelling, and is the smallest town in Britain. Llanwrtyd Wells makes a fantastic base for exploring nearby amenities and attractions such as the Cambrian Mountains. Dining options include The Drovers Rest Riverside Restaurant, Caffi Sosban, Café Myrtle, while you can stock up on essentials at the nearby Premier or Spar. Just outside of the quaint town is the market town of Builth Wells, where you can practice your swing at Builth Wells Golf Club, catch your favourite show at Wyeside Arts Centre, and take a wander through The Groe. For outdoor lovers, head further afield to Bannau Brycheiniog National Park (Brecon Beacons), for thrilling watersports, scenic trails, and spectacular wildlife.
