Oakwood Lodge is located within a mile of the peaceful village of Meifod, a picturesque rural community nestled in the scenic Vyrnwy Valley, and it’s a welcoming retreat, purpose-built with holiday comfort in mind. The setting couldn’t be better for enjoying both peace and adventure. Right outside the door, you’ll find rolling fields with sheep and cows, perfect for morning walks or evenings spent peacefully watching the sun go down. Meifod itself offers a friendly, small-village atmosphere with a local pub and shop within walking distance, and is surrounded by wooded hills, riverbanks, and farmland, making it a haven for walkers and nature lovers.
Just a short drive away, Welshpool (6 miles) offers a great mix of shops, pubs, and restaurants, alongside attractions such as the charming Welshpool and Llanfair Light Railway and the grand Powis Castle and Gardens, known for its impressive terraces and world-class formal gardens. Montgomery and Llanfyllin, two other historic market towns, are also close by and well worth a visit for their character, independent shops, and cafés.
For lovers of the outdoors, the Shropshire Hills and Snowdonia National Park are both within reach for hiking, cycling, or simply taking in the incredible scenery. The Mid Wales coast is also just over an hour’s drive (42 miles), with sandy beaches, seaside villages, and harbour towns to discover at your own pace. Lake Vyrnwy, where birdwatchers will also be very much in their element thanks to the rspb reserve and a wide variety of native species. Incredibly peaceful. Perfectly situated. Deep in nature yet 15 minutes from the supermarket!I can't express how peaceful this place is. It feels exclusive and luxurious whilst keeping a feeling of the great outdoors. The kids loved it as there are woods wildlife and the most beautiful streams literally on the doorstep, we all got muddy, the dog was in heaven and we simply couldn't not believe how special this place feels. The owners have done the most remarkable job, you can tell they have put their heart and soul into it and are so friendly and helpful.Comfy beds, quality fixtures and fittings and thoughtful touches made us feel welcome and a real sense of being at home as soon as we walked in. The Woodburner and hot tub helped us all decompress and get off screens as a family together for a change. (Although the WiFi is excellent). There's a great local village shop less than mile away for basics and you never feel too far away from things you may need. Especially of you have kids. This place really is special and extremely good value for money. I can't praise it enough and can't wait to go back. We've been to many cottages and cabins but never seen anything like this for the money. It's simply wonderful.
