Holiday Cottages In Welshpool

Welshpool is found in Powys, Wales and is close to the border with England. It has a lot to offer holidaymakers and is a beautiful place to enjoy a cottage holiday at a slower pace of life. Perfect for a relaxing break.

Welshpool may be a small town, but there is plenty to enjoy here. A short walk from the centre of town you'll find the impressive Powis Castle. This impressive building surrounded by castles is a wondrous place to visit. If the castle gardens leave you wanting more, take a short drive to the fantastic 25 acre Glansevern's garden. For a more natural outdoor experience, explore the Glyndwrs Way National Trail. There's lots to do in Welshpool.

What our customers say about their holidays

Squires rest is a beautiful home set in the hills of mid-wales.

It's remote enough to feel like you have your own slice of the countryside, but not too far from shops, pubs, takeaways and other activities nearby. The group of 13 friends I went with had plenty of space in the property, between it's sizeable kitchen, large dining/seating area, warm and comfy sitting room, and our favourite area - the cosy basement sitting room. The bedrooms were all large and well-equipped, many of them with en-suites. During our stay, the Annexe was unfortunately uninhabitable due to the heating not working, making it very cold in December. Our contact for the property did respond quickly, but unfortunately a new part had to be ordered that would not get it fixed whilst we were there. We managed to get everyone in the main house. The fella who came around multiple times to show us how everything works, sort out the hot tub etc, was quick to respond and friendly. The hot tub was a very welcome feature of the property, we had a bit of trouble with the electrics to that outside area of the home, probably due to a severe storm that had hit wales the day we arrived, but for the most part it worked, albeit with lights flickering in the main house! The games room was great, a very large spacious area that could be kept warm enough to enjoy, with a full size snooker table and darts board, comfy sofas and a TV. Both the TVs remotes required us to supply new batteries as they were both flat, unfortunately. Even in mid December, the large house was exceptionally warm, the kitchen was stocked with everything we needed for cooking, the two dishwashers came in handy, and elsewhere the property had plenty of amenities. The wifi was down for the first 2 days - again, likely due to the storm. The house was relatively clean, a bit dusty and cobwebby in places but otherwise in good condition. We noticed a slightly leaky oil pipe, and one of the en-suites in the top floor rooms had a leaky toilet, we had to empty the tupperware underneath to keep it overflowing. We felt the place could benefit from some information leaflet on how things in the property worked, like the hot tub, the heating, the rayburn cooker, what goes in what colour bins, etc. Ultimately it's tough to find a nice property of this size for a group of friends to stay, and whilst it had some negatives, I think we all thoroughly enjoyed staying at Squires Rest, it has a very homely feel, plenty of space, warmth and a bit of charm.

We were there as a 3 generation family group, aged from 9 to 80, with two members having reduced mobility.

The house, cottage, separate games barn and hot tub all provided ample space for us to enjoy our time together and also find a quiet corner if necessary! We hadn't appreciated that there was a steep slope to walk down to access the property, and several steps inside and out, some inaccessible for those with reduced mobility. Extra handrails might have provided a little more confidence but we managed and it did not detract from our overall enjoyment. The owners were very friendly and dealt swiftly with a couple of minor problems. As the property is very rural, there was no concern about the teens making too m noise and they were delighted with the games room, hot tub and cellar room with TV (we took our XBox). It was nice for the adults to have a TV-free living room to relax in. The house was toasty warm throughout with plenty of hot water. Some items in the kitchen needed a wash before use but that is not uncommon in large self-catering properties. The beds were all immaculately made with unbelievably fluffy pillows and duvets - like sleeping in a big marshmallow! As regards local activities, the teens made use of the gym and swimming pool at the leisure centre in Welshpool, whilst the girls enjoyed the indoor market and looking round the shops. We also visited the excellent Big Rock cafe in Porthmadog, went ice-skating in Deesside, explored waterfalls in the area and generally appreciated the loveliness of being together in Wales.

Squires Rest was a beautiful location, fantastic house had everything we need to suit our party of 18 ages from 8-78, the countryside views surrounding this property are breath taking.

It’s approximately 8-10 minutes from a lovely little town with 2/3 pubs, convenience stores, tennis court, childrens park, river, railway and an handy medical centre to name a few. The kitchen was the heart of the house leading through into a dining room that can serve dinner and play hours of games in. Everywhere was clean and tidy the bed sheets were lovely and the pillows on the beds were probably the best I’ve seen in a holiday house. There are extra bath/ shower towels but also a washing machine and tumble dryer in the utility area. The cottage adjoining the house was a great addition note there isn’t a fridge in the cottage only a double fridge freezer, single tall fridge and a single tall freezer in the main house. It is situated next to a working farm but you don’t notice it. The hot tub is a fantastic addition seats 8 people and the kids loved the Bluetooth music option. The bedrooms are clean and comfortable, however the bed in bedroom 4 does need replacing the bed was incredibly creaky and noisy. The mattress was also uneven and bumpy. Other than this one recommendation the house was lovely we had the most amazing family holiday.

What a wonderful cottage. A stunning location, just below the hilltop the farmhouse and attached cottage have superb countryside views. The website cottage description is entirely accurate. Comfy superking bed. We relaxed the moment we turned onto the drive. Beautiful preparation of the cottage with antique furniture, interesting garden space with seating in three linked areas surrounding the cottage allowing you to follow the sun, or seek shade. Cannot recommend this place highly enough, we will definitely return. Lovely nearby farm shop at Derwen Garden Centre for cheese, meat, fruit and veg. Owner, Rod, lives onsite and is a valuable source of info about the organic farm and it's wildlife, he understands that some people like to be left alone and some may want more info. If you love comfort, beautiful countryside, birdsong, wildflowers, butterflies and are looking to relax, this place is for you.

Some private comments left to owner already.

Lovely cottage with so much potential but needs to be better maintained. Some discrepancies with description and actual facilities. Most beds in main house doubles not king. Kitchen facilities and cooking equipment (oven and aga) need updating, hard to cater for a large group at present. The side cottage had no lock on the front door as the key had gone missing according to owner, so I feel this needs a locksmith to sort as we felt uncomfortable leaving children in an unlocked cottage at night (I appreciate crime rates are low but still that’s my personal thoughts) The grounds and hot tub were great. Beautiful working farm on the doorstep and we did still have a great time, but given the substantial cost of a three night stay, it would be nice if some of this money went back into maintaining the property or if the cost was lowered to reflect current standard.
