A cosy stone-built cottage tucked away in a peaceful courtyard position, yet only 5 minutes' walk from the centre of Betws-y-Coed with its shops, pubs and restaurants. Tastefully restored by the owners to offer accommodation of a high standard, Royal Oak Farm Cottage provides a wonderful holiday retreat. The owners live in the nearby farmhouse and personally welcome visitors. A superb base for exploring Snowdonia at any time of year!
Betws-Y-Coed is known as the ‘Gateway to Snowdonia'. Situated in a tranquil and picturesque valley in the Snowdonia National Park, Betws-Y-Coed has served as inspiration for artists since Victorian times, when much of the village was built. However, there is evidence of early Neolithic settlements and it is possible to explore the Neolithic Burial Chamber at Capel Garmon. In fact, the immediate vicinity has been home to the Romans, Anglo-Saxons and Celts and evidence of their tribes, villages and fortresses are to be found throughout the region. The village itself is well served by outdoor activity shops and you can sample traditional Welsh fare such as Welsh rarebit, Glamorgan sausages and bara brith in the inns and pubs that feed walkers and visitors throughout the calendar.

Cosy lounge/kitchen, but cold and damp bathroom and bedroom cupboard with black mold in a number of places. Needs some TLC.

Unfortunately the cottage is a bit dated and smaller than appears in the photographs. The en-suite was damp smelling and if the door was left open the smell permeated the bedroom. And, as with the case of many cottages , the bathroom would benefit from fitting a shelf and a bigger towel rail.

Easy access to shops and pubs,lots of walking and mountain bike trails. Would definitely stay again.
