This converted 17th-century coaching inn sits in Betws Garmon, on the edge of Eryri National Park, with mountain walks, lakes and historic towns all close by. Lace up your boots for the Snowdon Ranger Path from Llyn Cwellyn (2.5 miles), while in Llanberis (7.5 miles), you can ride the Snowdon Mountain Railway to skip the hike and admire the views from the summit. If you prefer watersports to hiking, Llyn Padarn (7 miles) offers activities such as paddleboarding, kayaking, and canoeing. Pick up produce or enjoy a meal out at Caernarfon (5 miles), Bangor or Conwy (all within 27 miles). When the sun is out, pack towels for the sandy beach at Dinas Dinlle (10 miles) or Aberdesach (12 miles).

When you fancy somewhere quieter, make your way to the conservatory, where you can curl up with a book while looking out across the garden.
