  Beautiful cottage fitted to a very high standard. There are 2 patio areas so you can chase the sun or shade. Welcome hamper included some local produce which is always a nice touch. We went during the much publicised heatwave but if you close all of the sturdy shutter doors and windows when you are out it is very effective at keeping the cottage at a reasonable temperature. Our second visit and we will be back but will try a different time of year for a change. Located close to Stamford, a small town with bags of character. Rutland Water within easy reach and numerous historic houses and gardens are also within a short driving distance.

  The quality of the cottage was 5 star as it was very well equipped and beautifully furnished. However, I have had to rate it as a 4 star overall as the cottage was on a main road and there was quite a lot of vehicle noise. It was one of the hottest weeks of the year and the upstairs bedroom was very hot and stifling. We could not have the upstairs window open during the night because of the road noise so we had the fan going all night to try to cool us down. The cottage was very well situated and we were able to visit Stanford, Cambridge, Burleigh House and Lincoln, as well as Rutland Water. Joanna and Piers were very helpful.

  Because of unexpected illness we were unable to visit Rectory Cottage. I was however appalled to find that Rural Retreats will not engage with me ( two requests) about their dubious business practice of charging a "damage waiver premium " of £150, as part of the booking fee, which they do not refund if you do not visit the property and I guess do not refund either if you visit but cause no damage. I see from a Companies House search that the directors of RR appear to be directors of a number of holiday letting companies- I hope that this practice is not common to them all.

  Very well equipped cottage. The owner was helpful when we asked to extend our time there. Excellent shower, a shaver socket! but as a whole the bathroom was very tight, I would have left out the bath and created more space. Well equipped kitchen although some more utensils for frying,grilling, would have been useful. Excellent walks and maps provided. The heating had a mind of its own, but seemed to work. I think the towel rail in the bathroom needs bleeding. It gave us precisely the time away we needed, so job done.
