What our customers say about their holidays
Clare - Verified booking
This was our 2nd time staying at the property and we have just booked our 3rd stay.
House is homely and comfortable, the beds are amazing, I have asked where I can buy one of the duvets from as slept amazingly with it. The arms chairs and brown leather sofa are not the most comfortable, however they are acceptable- but you do sink down in them and slide a little. The oven had not been cleaned very well, there was fat at the bottom of the oven which smoked and smelt when we used it. Also it would help to leave cleaning products to clean the work surfaces and the yard, as this may encourage people to do it if available. Internet box could do with being on a shelf, it is currently on top of the shoe box, however it got knocked over getting coats or lifting the box lid and if placed on the floor the internet signal was poor. Outside yard was washed down when the dog had been out there, but I think the astroturf has urine soaked in, as one day it was fairly warm with the sun on it and it stunk, despite me washing the yard. It may be better without the Astroturf as it will be easier to clean and less likely to hold liquid. I was informed about there being staining on the main bedroom ceiling from a leak however we unfortunately had very heavy rain one night and woke to hear drip drip drip. An emergency repair was booked and later in the week we had heavy rain but no issue with a bedroom water feature. So fingers crossed all will be sorted until roof is replaced next month. Location of the house is brilliant, and parking for two cars is excellent (once you master the reverse into the drive) We have found some brilliant places to eat over the past two years (dog friendly) Rusty Shears off Flowergate The Yorkshire wraps are huge and tasty Dog even got treated to a portion of sausage by the staff Sherlocks - flowergate We found this place last year and it is still as good Carrot cake is amazing as are the scones Coffee is good and always hot Chapel on the hill (Brunswick st)- left card in the house We went on the first day and planned to go on our last day but it was shut. Staff are friendly and welcoming and the food was scrummy, with lots of choice. Fuzzy dog bakery (flowergate) Dream place for our dog, the owner makes a fuss of the dog and gives them a treat or 3. Lovely friendly shop, I was so pleased to see that they were still open. Beach and rock pools, weâd only used the beach on the west cliff side, however on our last day we followed the path to the left at the bottom of the abbey steps and followed the street down to the jetty and pier- from here there was plenty of sand areas and rock pools, will definitely explore this more next year. Pannet Park/ Whitby museum The park is nice and clean and good for children, we also found a community book library within the community garden. Museum is free for children or £8 for adults (12 months entry) it was interesting with lots of collections. I did leave our tickets in the house if anyone wants to use to gain entry (left with the leaflets in the dining room) Itâs official my heart is lost to Whitby

The cottage is exactly as it appears in the photos.
The owner has given a lot of care and attention when updating the building and it looks amazing! We loved how small, cosy and quirky it is. The cottage is positioned in the centre of the High Street so you are surrounded by shops, pubs and restaurants which is great. The downside to being on the High Street is that you cannot park outside of the property between 8am and 6pm. We found a space on an adjoining street easily but for some people this may be an issue. The property is said to have a garden but we found this to be an alley way which was shared with a neighbour. There is a table and chairs in the alley way but you would be sitting in amongst some ladders, stacks of roof tiles and the bins for the property if you were to use it. There were a lot of cigarette butts on the floor so this appears to be a handy smoking area for those who indulge but I wouldn't suggest it to be a useable space for anything else. We had our 7 month old son with us and the owner supplied a cot which was brilliant and saved us from taking our own. However, while the property itself is child friendly the neighbours clearly aren't! On our penultimate morning our son was crying for a bottle, a situation which we always resolve in less than 5 minutes. The neighbour felt the need to bang on the wall during this short period of noise adding to the stress of trying to feed a crying baby. After this incident we attempted to not be in the property as much as possible as we did not want to offend the neighbour. This slightly spoiled the end of our stay as we were on edge if the baby made any noise. Overall we did enjoy our time at the property and it looks fantastic and is in a nice location

My first long stay in whitby and this property was a great little hub for the week.
On arrival we literally parked outside and used the 1hr permit provided to unload our vehicle. Additional long stay permits were provided too but parking in those were tricky. A bit of patience, waiting and circling around usually provided a place when someone left. However there is plenty of free parking available before entering the main permit zones which are a 5mins walk from the accommodation. Other reviews mention the sofas but they are now updated the broadband was high speed and perfect throughout. This property is small and compact which can be a plus or negative based on the visitors own tastes. We liked it alot. Pros : Great location Some parking permits provided Off the main street so added privacy High speed broadband Cozy Clean Dog friendly Cons : Small Little kitchen space Tight steep stairs, potentially problematic for certain people. Overall we found this place good value for money, it was clean, cozy and well located. The doggy shop is literally outside. Parking in whitby as a whole is difficult and not the fault of the property and we were provided with permits for our stay. If we come to whitby again we would actually consider this property again.

This little cottage on the High Street was exactly as pictured and has been restored to a good standard, but keeping it's quirkiness.
It stayed quite cool even in the current high temperatures. I did find that the TV being high on the wall made it difficult to watch. The kitchen is small but well equipped with everything you need. As previously mentioned the outdoor area was disappointing and an eyesore, cigarette ends everywhere, the property particulars does say no smoking in or around the cottage. You would also have to sit among the bins and the neighbours washing strung across the alley. Maybe a small screen across and a few potted plants would make this area more appealing. The bedrooms were quite large and the beds very comfortable, not sure about the brushed cotton bedding in the summer though, there is also a lack of coat hangers, there was only one in the wardrobe. There is also an iron and ironing board in the wardrobe which isn't mentioned in Sykes description, also it says there is a sofa bed which there isn't. The bathroom is modern, with a large open shower area. Note to owner, the shower tray needs sealing at floor level. All in all we enjoyed our stay in Betty's Cottage, and the old town, we would definitely stay again. I would also like to mention Lucy, the cleaner, for doing a good job.

The owner has done a lovely job renovating the property and drawing out its potential.
The living space is small, so seating for 5 may be difficult and it is not really that suitable for eating in. The bedrooms are quite spacious, so it is a great property to use as a base. Short-term parking can be had just opposite, and there is a free carpark just around the corner. If you do not like cooking, there are a number of take away places nearby as well, although we tended to eat out. We did walk to the beach once, with a couple of kids, and it took about 30 minutes. There are quite a few places to see, with Scarborough and York being relatively close. There is no outside space worth speaking about. This was not an issue, since we only used the accommodation. Areas where the accommodation could improve are: include 2 pillows per person, 1 seemed a little stingy; look to improve the size and quality of the towels, they were very thin and even my 9 year old daughter thought the main towel was a hand towel. Finally, consider adapting your shower to include a door. This is not essential for your guests' comfort, but you may find some less careful guests end up causing floods.
