What our customers say about their holidays

When we arrived all was good so we both went out to the garden without our two dogs just to check that the garden area was secure .
we found that the two gates on either side of the garden were open so we shut them then let the dogs out . all was good for the next couple of days . we did see that the bin for the rubbish had been removed but the gates were then closed . on our last night we came in at about 4.30 pm let the dogs out and I then picked up the black bag to put out and then I found that there was both gates wide open and one of our dogs was missing . my self and me wife then started to shout out for our dog and could not see her anywhere . at the end of the houses to the right there was an alleyway to the main road so we both went down the alleyway to the front of the house which is on a main road . I went to the right and my wife went to the left and while my wife was looking she saw our dog at the edge of the road so she shouted for her to stay and she did so my wife was able to get her and bring our dog back . both of the neighbours knew that we had dogs as they had seen them so why they left the door open . my wife was in bits all night thinking what could of happened . we put our comments in their book at the property stating that we would never come back to stay at this property . if they canât guarantee that the gates are closed the they should have another gate put up at the end of the patio where there is a wall in place and then this could be locked and you could let your dogs out into this safe area before they go into the main garden. I do believe that all dog owners and parents with small children should be aware of this problem .

Lavender Cottage is a beautiful old building.
The sitting room has lots of room for four people and the house is in a great location. The bedrooms are bright and spacious. As you would expect from a 17c building, it is quirky and you have to expect things like the internal doors not shutting and getting used to ducking your head to avoid the low beams. The kitchen is very well equipped and the bed linen and bath towels were crisp and clean. Sadly though this property was very let down by; * the garden which was a big disappointment as it clearly has not been cared for at all. The shrubs in the pots at the end of the garden were dead. The plants were all very over grown particularly a every vicious old rose bush, the beautiful apple tree is so low and over grown that you have to stoop to walk up the garden. To the left of the back door was a pile of discarded and dirty carpet. For want of a days hard work this could all be improved and would make a huge difference to the quality and enjoyment of staying there. * the house is in need of a deep clean, the windows most particularly which had dirt, cobwebs etc between the external windows and double glazing in the sitting room. * the bathroom had received a good âbetween tenantsâ clean but again it needs a deal clean in all of the floors corners etc.

3 night stay in Lavender Cottage over New Year 2022.
We expected the interiors to be quite basic and they were...partly in keeping with the 'higgledy-piggledy' nature of the 16th Century cottage, but it did feel pretty sparse and not very 'loved'. The highlight of the whole house was the stove/fireplace which gave a lovely centre to the living space and was why we chose the cottage over another similarly priced one in the town. That said, we were disappointed by the lack of 'welcome pack' (a bottle & Norfolk biscuits for some reason!) - much less than we have ever come across - and the complete absence of anything like salt, pepper, oil, milk such that we had to buy everything like that, frustrating. This has never happened before in any of the self catered properties we have stayed in, many of them with Best of Suffolk, and only added to the rather stark and unwelcoming nature of the cottage. In addition, the freezer was in need of defrosting; there were no coat hooks which would have been welcome given the wet weather; and in general we felt the cottage was tired and in need of some refreshing.

We stayed for a weekend just before most schools break up.
Getting the key was smooth and trouble free.We found it clean, comfortable and very nicely decorated. The kitchen is stylish and equipped with everything you would need for your stay. The bathroom (which is on the ground floor) is modern and has both a bath and a very good shower. Thereâs a long, narrow and rather featureless garden with patio and lawn. The location is very practical if not particularly picturesque. Itâs just a ten minute stroll to the seafront. We had no problem parking right outside the property while we coming and going. For shopping there is a Co-op very close by. I was going to list some criticisms but then they were so trivial I thought they looked a bit silly so I deleted most of them. Elderly or very young guests might find the stairs a bit steep. It might make sense to have the Wi-Fi password on a sign in the kitchen rather than slightly buried in the property information file.

The cottage was really nice but not suitable for everyone, including my husband and I.
We missed the part of the description where it said about the downstairs bathroom, and found this to be quite a big problem. I am 75 and severely visually impaired, to negotiate from the bedroom, down the stairs and across the large kitchen to the toilet, in the middle of the night, was quite challenging. The same for my husband. The lounge was ok but very dark, even with the light on, making it difficult to see to read etc, the bed was huge and very comfortable. The kitchen was very well equipped with plenty of tableware and cutlery and the little, gift-wrapped parcel of dish cloths, sponge, bin bags and dishwasher and washing machine tablets was a lovely touch, even though we didn't use either of them, as was the bottle of wine that was left for us, which we did use. All-in-all, lovely place but shame about the downstairs bathroom.
