What our customers say about their holidays

The Hay Barn is a beautiful property in a lovely rural setting & was the perfect place for 3 generations of our family to spend time together.
The interior is stunning, very spacious with great features such as exposed brickwork, beams in the bedrooms & deep window sills (ideal window seats to gaze out at the surrounding countryside views). The finish is superb and quality of furnishings, fittings, linens outstanding. Above all it feels homely and welcoming. Everything has been provided that guests could possibly need, along with some unexpected little treats on arrival - a lovely touch from our host. Photographs donât really do it justice - we loved the look from the pictures but âin the fleshâ (so to speak) The Hay Barn is so much more impressive. The outside space is delightful & compliments the property. A large courtyard style area with a beautiful raised flower bed, lawn, a range of seating areas and even some ride on toys for the youngest guests. Though previously a hot tub could be could be hired in via the owner, the addition of a large permanent hot tub is a huge bonus and really added a touch of luxury to our stay. Fishlake is a rural village but there are plenty of places to visit it & things to do within a short distance. Lots of lovely walks, a luxury day spa on the doorstep, farm/wildlife parks - as well as places to go out to eat. Jill the owner was a perfect host - very friendly, helpful & responsive. She contacted me personally ahead of our stay and was very quick replying to any questions. We also really appreciated her suggestions for places to visit with our granddaughter. We had the pleasure of meeting Jill with her friend on arrival they were most welcoming - just what we needed after a drive in awful weather! Thank you again Jill for a wonderful birthday break with our family & being such a great host. We all loved our time at The Hay Barn & wouldnât hesitate to recommend it.

Whenever I arrive at a property these days I immediately think, "Would I stay here again?
" I'm pleased if I can say "yes" straight away, and if nothing changes my mind throughout the week, I think I'm on a winner. This is one of those. It's clear that this hasn't been let for long, the place is very clean and the finish of the building shows a fine eye for detail. Very little has been spared to make it really nice. There were six of us staying at Hay Barn, with a baby and toddler. We had everything we needed, there was enough china and cutlery to be able to leave the dishwasher until it was full. Plenty of useful cooking pots too. The courtyard garden was nice and a great area to use, the little one was able to run around safely. There are nice walks around the property and chances to see some cows and wildlife. The bat which managed to get into a bedroom one evening was a treat! Anyone without a fishing landing-net in the car might have taken a different view, but I'm sure that it's a once in a lifetime occurrence both for us and the building. The owners were nearby and were very helpful if we needed anything else, thanks for the advice on where to go and the baby thermometer.

Just returned from a week at the Cow Shed at Pear Tree Farm.
We had a great holiday. The cottage was extremely comfortable and spacious for two people (and our border collie). We wanted a relaxing holiday and that is exactly what we got. I had worked and played in one of the top colliery bands in this area (and the country) many years ago. I left in 1982 so the holiday was partly for sentimental reasons and to renew some acquaintances. Many of the former collieries are now country parks, which is excellent if you like us have a dog and/or just want to do a fair bit of walking (e.g. Frickley Country Park). The Trans Pennine Trail is also less than half a mile from the cottage. I had never heard of this before but there is plenty about the trail on the web. The trail mostly follows canal towpaths in this area. We also went to Sandall Beat Wood, near Doncaster Racecourse. All interesting and enjoyable. The owners were very friendly and went out of their way to be helpful. The 'welcome pack' was also much appreciate on arrival. Their dogs were also friendly and it was good to see them most days. We have no hesitation in recommending the cow shed at pear tree farm.

We had a lovey stay at The Hay Barn in Fishlake.
The 4 bedroom barn was perfect for the six of us who were looking for a spacious modern property for a weekend of relaxing away in the countryside. The Hay Barn is a very modern property and the owners have really thought about balancing modern facilities whilst still retaining the original charm of the barn. The kitchen is equipped with AEG appliances, the bathrooms have excellent showers with good water flow and the large smart TV is great for watching a movie at the end of the day. The garden is a great place for a BBQ, breakfast or any kind of dining and with the added canopy, you have some shelter from the elements. One of the property highlights is a huge, modern hot tub which was prepared for us by the owner and checked during our stay. A great addition and something which separates this property from oneâs we have stayed at in the past. Overall, a great property for larger families or large groups wanting to spend time relaxing in a modern facility within the countryside. Thank you Gill and Jack for your hospitality!

The cottage was beautiful with all the amenities you could want for a weekâs stay, even down to dog treats and dog towels.
The bathroom was luxurious with an amazing bath! The height of the ceilings added to the spaciousness of the living room and kitchen. When relaxing in the cottage the large tv provided brilliant viewing of the Olympics. The outside courtyard attached to the cottage was a really good size for our dogs to potter around and it was good to know they were safe and secure. The grounds of the farm gave us plenty of dog walks, one of which led us to the pretty canal where we picked blackberries to make jam. We made friends with the horses on the farm over the field fences and the farm dogs, particularly Cookie, who joined us for our daily walks. The owners couldnât have been more helpful and friendly suggesting the best beaches to visit and helping us with parking. The Country Show in the next village was great and our dogs enjoyed taking part in the fun dog show categories. We visited York, the coast and wildlife reserves. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and would definitely rebook.
