What our customers say about their holidays
Helen - Verified booking
My review is 2 parts.
Firstly â ï¸ WARNING â ï¸ for guests with children & dogs, secondly for adults. Prior to booking our family gathering I rang Sykes Cottages to confirm the garden was fully enclosed for my 2 dogs and grandchildren. Having contacted the owner it was confirmed the garden was secure and fully enclosed. What we found was a large garden with high fencing on 2 sides. At the end of the garden was a row of brambles and a 3ft slope down to what looked like wire fencing, this we later found to be a 3ft fully BARBED WIRE fence as my large dogs managed to get past me and squeeze through a gap in the fencing into the farmers field (thankfully there was no livestock there as I am aware the farmer has a right to shoot). 1 dog cut their face and I got stuck on the fence trying to retrieve them, we all ended up covered in cow poo. We couldn't stop thinking about how much worse it could have been had one of the children chased a ball and slipped down the slope into the barbed wire. Annoyed and upset I complained and reported this. There was no interest shown by the owner in the wellbeing of the dog or myself or any attempt to rectify the matter, in fact they denied there was a problem until photographic evidence was provided to Sykes Cottages. Then I was offered a £20 refund (what I paid to take the 2nd dog) which was an insult and refused. I left the following day, upset and with the dogs who were supposed to remain at the barn for the rest of the week with family. On the flip side to this, the barn itself is beautiful, tastefully decorated and with lovely welcome gifts. The kitchen is well stocked and warm with the aga (but there is no door from the lounge into the kitchen causing a burning hazard for a child). Towels & plastic glasses are provided for the hot tub (unaware, we had taken our own). It is perfect for adults just be prepared for the trickles of water from the shower and the trip hazards throughout.

A lovely property with so much space.
A massive through kitchen, conservatory, with 3 sets of doors to open in the summer, dining, sitting room. Just right for entertaining a large family, with cupboards and drawers full of everything you might need and a cosy snug for quiet moments, and downstairs wc. A master suite with large comfy bed and sofa and great wet room, tv and so much space. Three more large bedrooms, no single beds, one with TV. A huge bathroom with walk-in shower and a jacuzzi bath you could get lost in. Lots of seating in the garden for warm days and a hot tub, which we did not try. Location is just off A585, but you would not know it. We walked into Cleveley in around 20 mins. Here you can get bus/tram to Fleetwood or Blackpool or get a giant meringue at Cleveleys Kitchen! We also had a very nice meal at Pablo's in Fleetwood. They close at 3p.m., so it's good for long lunches. Staff are very nice. We cycled on the sea front at Fleetwood and from the south of Cleveleys, right through to Star Gate. All off the road, so great for families. We also cycled round Stanley Park and out past the Zoo. Another good ride for families and the cafe in the park is well worth a visit. We sat outside with the bikes and people stopped to talk to us!

I stayed at Sunny Bank for a 4 week period, whilst searching for permanent accommodation in the area.
I had not long arrived from Australia & was working full time. I had also brought my pet cat over with me, & Sally (the owner) was very generous about letting her stay in the cottage with me. Sally is a lovely lady, who was helpful & kind, & her attention to detail in Sunny Bank is a testament to her thoughtfulness for the needs of others. In the 4 weeks I spent at Sunny Bank, I did not want for anything. The cottage has everything you could possibly need, for any length of stay. I imagine if there was something you might want, that wasnât in the cottage, Sally would do all she could to try & help you out. I cannot speak highly enough of her generosity & kindness. Thank you Sally, for all the hard work & effort you have put into the renovation & modernisation of the 300+ year old Sunny Bank, & then sharing the fruits of all that labour with the rest of us. I highly recommend Sunny Bank to anyone looking for the comforts of a home-away-from-home experience, in a beautiful area of Lancashire.

The cottage is so incredibly sweet and cozy, a beautiful building with a lot of heart.
The Beds are THE most comfortable beds Iâve ever slept in considering Iâve staying in 5* hotels the beds at the cottage are so incredibly comfortable itâs like sleeping on a cloud. The area is quiet although close to pub and shops, there are walks and places to visit close by and I genuinely canât say how much we really enjoyed our stay and canât rate it highly enough. We had to be there because of a sudden death in the family and Sally the owners is the sweetest kindest lady Iâve ever known. Sally made sure that we were happy and comfortable and was ready to help with anything instantly and for that I will always respect her for this and also be a loyal customer as well as friend. If anyone needs a comfortable calm clean space to rest then the cottage is definitely the place is to unwind and recharge. Thank you Sally your amazing as your cottage is too

We stayed here for my mums 70th birthday.
Upon arrival I contacted the owner to make them aware of pre existing damage. One of the legs on the nest of tables was broken, cigarette burns on the couch, both showers didn't work properly (a plumber was called out who couldn't fix the main shower and the electric shower was cold) stains on the rug and sofas, iron burn on the carpet in one of the bedrooms, a dining chair was broken. The floor also hadn't been cleaned as all of our socks were dirty within minutes. The outdoor table with the fire also didn't work so we couldn't enjoy the garden like we'd hoped. I have photos as proof of all the damage we came across. Although the owner was understanding and tried to help we still had to get washed in the hot tub. Won't be booking with Sykes again unfortunately.
