What our customers say about their holidays

Absolutely adore this cottage!
â¦it is a proper quirky, characteristic place, great for 2 people and 2 little dogs, the stairs, yes!, the stairs are traditional stone steps, so you have to take extra care, not an issue for us, but may be for the less able, low beams and door ways, you WILL hit your head if you are 6ft!, ( Iâm Tiny, I loved the charm of the beams, partner hit his head a few times!), we got lots of use from the log burner as we attended in March, cottage warms up nice and toasty, beds comfy, huge big lounge with comfy sofa, everything was clean and welcoming, a well stocked kitchen, owners called by on the Saturday to say hi, a welcome pack of a lovely cake, milk and treats for the dogs, ( thank you) the area is great for exploring, sadly the pub 1 minute from the cottage has closed down, but thereâs others in the village, local spar 2 mins walk, ( great shop) a couple of take aways, chippy etc, so excellent base, the only slight negative I can say is the internet needs up grading as it couldnât cope with a laptop and phone logged to it, the walls are so thick 4g couldnât get through them so had to go out side to use phone with dataâ¦.100% recommend beehive cottage for a break away, wouldâve loved to see the history/ story of the building and the renovation that was done, if the owner has these, please pop the story in the welcome packâ¦special mention to Goat Gap Cafe, best dog friendly cafe weâve been in!â¦

Firstly I cannot fault the cottage itself, it was lovely and had all the equipment etc you could need.
However, the listing fails to mention that the 'dirt' road the cottage is on is very busy with both vehicular traffic and also footfall. There is a constant stream of cars going past the property as well as people and the cottage is very close to the path so this is happening right outside the window which I felt really disrupted your privacy, I did not feel private at all. To make matters worse there is currently a construction site a matter of feet away from the cottage which meant there were things such as tractors transporting building materials like roof supports backwards and forwards again right outside the cottage window, I have pictures of this. This work started at around 7.30 in the morning so I was woken early each day and found it impossible to relax and enjoy the peaceful and stress free holiday I had been so desperately looking forward to due to the continuous noise and the cars which I felt were speeding by the cottage. Unfortunately due to all of these factors I felt I had to leave the cottage early and cut my holiday short and I found it so stressful and noisy, not at all the peaceful retreat I was looking forward to. I have booked quite a few holidays through Sykes and I have never had an issue like this before and never felt the need to cut my holiday short. I would really appreciate a response on this feedback, kind regards, Miss Karen Walker

I can only echo the review left by Jacqueline for Skipper.
Our holiday was absolutely ruined by the building work that is ongoing right next to Skipper. Constant loud noise all day from heavy construction plant and many skip fires that blew smoke all over the garden. In addition the workers arrived at 7am in the morning and parked behind the gates, slamming doors and waking us up. There are see through gates where they park, so our privacy was also compromised. We only read Jacquelineâs review during the holiday and had no warning from either the owners or Sykes that this was happening, although clearly it has been going on a while. I feel the owners are morally corrupt, actually making the cottage available during a period when they know there are obtrusive works going on. Despite complaining three times during the holiday, neither the noise nor the skip fires ceased. We also complained to Sykes, who were of no real help, citing the fact that the contract is with the vendor and not with them. There is no mediation service. The only recourse left open to me to gain some kind of recourse is to go to the small claims court, but my wife and I have decided to draw a line on it and not spend any more precious time on this matter. So the big guys win again. I just hope that others read this before booking or taking their holiday and hopefully it will save someone from the same horrible experience that we have had.

***BE AWARE THERE IS BUILDING WORK GOING ON ON SITE*** This was our second stay at Skipper.
We were there last autumn and thought weâd go back when the weather was better (who were we kidding?). Having had a wonderfully peaceful stay in beautiful surroundings we expected the same but were sadly disappointed. There is major building work around the hall itself but all of the heavy machinery and vehicles are kept just to the left of Skipper and the noise of them trundling back and forth was horrendous. It started at 7am and didnât let up until 5pm. As if this wasnât bad enough there were a couple of skip fires so we had to keep the doors and windows closed. Also one night a van turned up, parked directly facing the garden with its headlights blazing in on us. We had a glorious 48 hours between Friday night and Monday morning when work stopped and all of the animals began to emerge. We had taken almonds and walnuts for the squirrels and it didnât take long before they were tapping on the patio doors to be fed, the rabbits and pheasants came out from hiding and we even spotted a few deer. We discovered that there are a couple of truly free range chickens which rocked up at the garden gate and in no time they were eating out of our hands. Sadly the diggers and dump trucks started up again at 7am Monday morning and we had no choice but to leave.
