What our customers say about their holidays
Samantha - Verified booking
The property was very clean in the bedrooms and bathrooms and was lovely and appealing when we first arrived.
The kitchen cupboards are ALL full of appliances or plates etc which leaves no room for food apart from one skinny cupboard, all of our food was left out on benches. I think the cleaners should check the cupboards to see if last tenants have put away clean dishes, we used the pans for the hob but they we still DIRTY off previous tenants which is not ideal. There was Mushrooms growing down in the cinema room- which smoked when touched!! Sooo dangerous with dogs and children in the property, also floor had no carpet so when the underlay moved the carpet grippers were on show, again dangerous with the children. Tv in the sitting room, we couldnât get it to work, if we did get it to work we all couldnât sit on the sofaâs and watch it cause of the positioning of the TV. Games in the sitting room not well stocked, same as games in the rest of the property, no hockey puck for hockey, not enough counters for connect 4, garage had bags of outdoor games, football one empty, tennis one empty etc, trampoline needs to be more safe, the cover is coming off which one child got their foot stuck in the springs around it, again dangerous! Showers were not working at all, hardly no pressure to shower which means very little water coming out, some showers werenât even getting hot or working at all, this has previously been mentioned in the visitors book but still not sorted ? The courtyard wasnât usable, must be a blocked pipe from the sink and/or washing machine which has left black sludge over spill - very slippery and foul smell. We made the most of our weekend and it was well needed to spend time with family from down south, we took toys/games with us to keep us entertained and enjoyed the pool table and hot tub most, we took a variety of indoor and outdoor activities, not ideal for packing lightly, but it is needed at this property if you have kids with you as the facilities I donât think are kept update as much as needed. Property very clean on first glance, again think the cleaners should check BBQ etc we checked and it wasnât cleaned for god knows how long as well as the tongs left for use of the BBQ. Very large and spacious and for all the and the family, I would recommend staying here but to take your own activities, pool table trampoline and slide wasnât enough to keep our kids entertained for 3 full days. Loved the bathrobes for hot tub and I say very clean on first glance, very large property and the slide is a bonus - even the adults enjoyed it. Thanks for the over nights stay, well needed to spend time with family.

There is no denying the cottage is attractive externally .
The problem is inside , it is not untidy by any means ,the problem is it is very small . Potentially it supposedly can sleep 4 people , and accommodate two pets . Never in a million years is this house suitable for that number , it's only suitable for two people maximum and even two pets is pushing it. The sofa bed we were informed in the living room was broken , good job really as god knows where the space is to open it , so a single Z bed was brought in to replace it - fair enough - but then you were stuck with that in the way . The other double bed is up a very steep staircase , and you have to walk through the bathroom to get to it , this is interesting if you had two couples staying , nice roll top bath but no privacy . Bedroom has one tall boy set of drawers , and bedside drawers but no wardrobes - just two tiny rails in an alcove ??? Where would four people put there clothes for a week ?? Also the loo is in the bathroom but the hand basin is in the bedroom - interesting. There was no freezer department in the fridge and I feel that is a necessity . Don't even get me started on the tv and DVD player - everyone is yellow and the screen is about the size of a lap top . We were only staying Monday - Saturday , and in that time we were asked if a gas engineer could come service the hob , potentially a Gardner was coming Friday or Saturday . Then one evening the power in all the sockets went out , so no tv , kettle , microwave , fridge , heating , no Wi-Fi !!!!! People did try to get us an emergency electrician but with no luck - so we were going to be stuck the whole night with nothing - my wife was very upset and disappointed . I took matters into my own hands eventually , took some photos and sent it all to my electrician brother - who called me and talked me through how to reset the electrics . And just like that after three hours the power came back on - do YOU know an electrician you can call ??? I use Sykes all the times and have never had any cause to complain about their listings , but I feel this one needs a clearer online description. It may look like the perfect chocolate box cottage outside , but just be aware of what you will find when you open the tin.

We stayed here for a week for a family get together.
The house had a lovely atmosphere with great quirky features. All the bedrooms were beautifully decorated and large with very comfy beds. Even though there was twelve of us staying ranging in age from 9 weeks to 65 it never felt crowded and you could always find a quiet nook to relax if you wanted. We had great fun and the hot tub and games table were used everyday. The fixtures were a little tired but given the age of the house this is to be expected. Although the water was extremely hot the water pressure to the showers is very poor. We stayed here with three children age 5,6 and 10 and they loved the slide to the basement. They never complained of being bored once during the stay! The weather was a little inclement most days but it gave us an excuse to stay in and enjoy the house and light the log fire in the kitchen and have lots of chats and giggles round the table. We did explore the area and visited a number of places. The highlight for the children (and my daughters) was a trip to Harry Potter world which was about an hours drive away. We had the benefit of cars during our stay so did not use public transport so cannot comment on this. The house is in a residential area close to a main road. The garden is not overly big and is overlooked but there is a hot tub and large trampoline for the children. The gym in the garage was used daily by members of the family although I am ashamed to say not by me! Should we wish to stay in the area in the future I would definitely consider staying here again. Thank you to Miranda for answering my queries before we arrived and for the lovely welcome pack on arrival. We did not meet the owners or a representative during our stay but could call them in the event if an emergency. The key collection was very easy.

This is the worst cottage we have ever stayed in.
A rodent problem caused us two sleepless nights meaning that we were so exhausted that we had to forgo the remainder of our seven-night booking. On arrival we found a ball of wire wool on the bathroom windowsill and saw that some wire wool had been placed in one of the holes around the bathroom pipes. We also noticed rodent bait boxes had been placed under the bath and behind the chest of drawers in the bedroom. On the first evening we heard scrabbling noises from the living room ceiling but by the second night the scratching and gnawing noises from bedroom ceiling in the middle of the night was so loud that sleep was impossible. Having now seen that a previous review from September mentioned that the rodent issue was reported to Sykes, we are disappointed that we were not told about this before making the journey to the cottage as this unpleasant situation was foisted upon us. Surely pest controllers should have been called to eliminate the mice before guests were allowed to stay there again. Leaving early was our only option as the mice could obviously not have been eradicated in the timeframe of us staying there. We have reported the rodent issue to Sykes as well as the other concerns we had i.e. the fan oven thermostat was faulty so all foods cooked in it was massively overdone due to the extremely high temperatures it was reaching. This made self-catering impossible for us as the food we took with us had to be oven cooked. We were also concerned about the potential fire risk from a spotlight in the entrance hallway that was hanging down by its holder especially as it had a cable tie attached to it which had been scorched by the heat of the bulb. This had resulted in burnt pieces of cable tie to drop on the floor.

The house was beautiful except it is now looking very tired and needs some critical tlc.
This is a list of things that needs sorting. For a property that sets out to be at the middle to top end this level of faults is unacceptable. I would welcome the owners feedback and maybe an offer of compensation would be appropriate. Two spots in lounge by window not working Main kitchen lights didnât work making cooking difficult Mould in Conker room Heaters in the conservatory (3 out 4 were fixed by electrician whilst we were there) Main bathroom toilet seat is wobbly Theatre room is damp very stale smelling, water in middle of floor. This room was unusable Table tennis nets are broken (supports) Cookerhood not working resulting in smoke alarms being activated and needing an electrician to come and reset. Smoke alarms are battery operated, seems pretty poor as they can fail at any time. Mould in main bathroom on wall Sofa in bedroom blocked up and wobbly Sofa in lounge sinking one end. Courtyard drain was blocked and over flows when raining and when washing machine used Google networks donât connect correctly. Blinds broken in lounge alcove Knives are blunt. Conservatory door not very secure Blinds in bedroom broken, slacks broken in sofa bed. Wardrobe doors sticking Low water pressure. Hand held shower in en-suite not working properly. Extractor fan in en-suite squeals One light bulb in en-suite not working and exposed Light on wall flashes on or off. Conservatory roof leaks flooding the floor making use of pool table impossible in rain Blocked drain from roof Gutters blocked.wrong hot tub lid Dish washer dispenser broken. Whole house smelt of damp. Probably biggest list of faults in any property we have stayed in. I shall await your feedback. Chris
