What our customers say about their holidays

First time here for myself, partner and twin 11 year old boys. After a 31/2 hour drive up from Northamptonshire it was lovely to step in, to find tea, coffee milk and biscuits left for us so we could just switch the kettle on and have a rest. On arrival the cottge was spotless, It's spacious, modern and yet still feels cosy, There is plenty of room in the 2 bedrooms and very spacious bathrooms, it had every apliance you could want and really felt like home from home, There is a large entrance hall between the main outer door and the door to the cottage for all your shoes , coats , buckets , spades etc and there was plenty of cupboard space in the kitchen for supplies. The two bedrooms had buit in cupboards for clothes and each bed had storage drawers too, towels were provided and a hairdryer. Included in our stay was a pass to Sledmere house & Gardens which got us in for free along with acess to the Maize Maze, there was also free games to play such as frisbee, rounders , quiots, football & footgolf, we spent the whole day there FOC and just paid for coffee and cake ( fantastic cake!!!). its quite a quiet village and we did have a bIt of a drive to the nearest shop, however all the coastal places were within a very easy 15 - 20 min drive. The cottage also has parking which was right outside the door but off of the main road, so safe for the kids to get in / out of. There is a pub in the village just a short walk up the road however we did not visit as children have to vacate by 8pm and we didnt get back with enough time to allow us to go , eat and be out by then, so cannot say what it is like. We had to contact the host about one little thing but she was fantastic, got back to us straight away and all was sorted. She also sent us ideas of places to visit. My partner loved it here so much he was already contacting them about next years holiday as we were locking up to leave & he has never done a return visit to any where we have stayed before !

Sykes Staff have been nothing but friendly and accommodating, they were not to fault for our unsatisfactory stay.
The property however had dust webs left in corners (despite cleaners) and offered no QR code/Covid guidelines, no antibacterial hand wash or sanitiser (good job we took our own). We were greeted by a wasps nest by the front door obviously using the propertyâs roof. The door with its large double glass windows offered no privacy from passers by using the shared drive and communal laundry room given the fact the shower and toilet were right behind it which resulted in us having to hang a towel over the door. The pictures of the garden were misleading. It clearly shows a grass area which had been cordoned off and belonged to another property which only left the stoned area you see in the pictures which would have been fantastic if it werenât for the fact they are not friendly to the paws of our fury friends which meant our pet friendly get away wasnât in fact so pet friendly at all and his off lead play time went out the window. The directions to the property are not clear, even using âwhat four wordsâ we had difficulty. In the end we were forced to contact Sykes which then had to contact the owners who added another couple of steps to the directions. Frankly if it werenât for the fact we had to rely on a family member for travel and our signal was so spotty we never would have stayed.

A quiet and relaxing holiday in a well equipped property.
We did one or two local walks but excess to the castle ruins in the village is not allowed for obvious reasons. You will know when you see them, however you can circumnavigate them. There are two pubs in Sheriff Hutton but the Castle Inn a few 100 yards away is now closed for the foreseeable future. The Highwayman does a really good Sunday Lunch but we didn't try the pub in the week, cooked a few meals in the cottage. A one woman taxi service exists in the village, see the local magazine. At the end of the road near the Highwayman is a really good cafe, it is called Quarmby's, we highly recommended it for a tasty treat and coffee. Openings, Wednesday. thought to Sunday. The cottage was comfortable and we slept well in a large bed, there is plenty of wardrobe and draw space. No problems with the facilities as there is a folder provided with all the information needed. The internet and mobile signals are good. No major problems, the owner is only a text or call away and is very helpful. I would like take this opportunity to thank her for the food, milk and beverages she provided on our arrival.

We have just returned from the most wonderful stay at Bay View Cottage near Robin Hoodâs Bay.
The setting is absolutely beautiful and the views are just incredible! The cottage is cosy, homely and very well equipped. It was also immaculately clean. There was always plenty of hot water available and the heating worked very efficiently. The kitchen has all the things you need to prepare and cook. The children also loved the climbing frame and slide in the lovely garden area behind the properties. The courtyard is very pretty and full of sun in the morning. It is also very spacious for parking cars and unloading luggage straight in through the kitchen door. There was no lugging of heavy items or boxes for any distance! The gorgeous beaches and pretty villages are a short drive from the cottage, though walkable for those who perhaps want to do so with dogs and without little ones. Our dog also felt very at home! Aldi and Sainsburyâs are an easy ten minute drive away. We absolutely loved our stay here and we will be back to enjoy more of the beautiful Yorkshire coast. Thank you so much to June and Alan for a fantastic holiday.

The cottage was a delight.
The welcome pack was a really nice touch and the homemade jam was gorgeous. The cottage was very clean throughout and the cleaner deserves to be personally thanked. The cottage was spotless. We loved the shower and the rear garden sitting out area. The bed was very comfortable and we had very restful nights. We loved the wooden shutters and the wood burner. We used it once on one chilly evening, but didn't need any wood. Burning the coal that was made up for us, was enough to take the chill away for an hour or so before bedtime. We understood that the cottage had access rights through the neighbours garden (like we do at our own home), but we didn't need to use that rear access. The weather was really good for our holiday break and our dog's feet were cleaned up and dried with towels (provided) at the front of the house. People in the village were very friendly, especially the young man in the stone house to the left beyond Ascot.
