I booked the Annexe, as it looked exactly what we wanted for a quick September break. Peace to read and relax, Tennis on site, swimming, games room fantastic! On arrival, Richard the owner greeted us and showed us to our accommodation for the next 6 nights. As soon as we entered the Annexe we new we had got it very wrong... it was dark and when you turned the lights on, it was quite obvious it was unloved and needed a very good clean!! Richard offered to clean the property the following morning for us, but after one night with a doggy shower, we just felt we had, had enough and we wanted out. The tennis court was unplayable due to moss covering the court, and a broken net. When I mentioned this to Richard he said they where fighting a battle with the moss as the court is positioned under trees, the net would be replaced. We just felt that everything was lovely twenty years ago, but now every thing seemed really sad, and needed a good spruce up to standard. I didn’t use the pool, but to be fair it looked clean and nice. Overall nothing looked like it did on the website, we felt trading standards would have had a field day. Having said all of the above, When we discussed the issues with Richard, he very kindly moved us into a much nicer newly renovated barn at no extra charge. So in the end after a poor start, Richard did make the accommodation work for us. We thank him very much for that.

Very nice area. We didn't have a car but Dunster is only 2 miles away by a quiet back road, and we walked to the summit of Dunkerly Beacon from the cottage - about 6 miles each way. We didn't have a car but Dunster is only 2 miles away by a quiet back road, and we walked to the summit of Dunkerly Beacon from the cottage - about 6 miles each way. We also walked to Minehead over the hill - there is a network of paths. Dunster has a lot of old buildings and a fine castle with grounds. Park Centre runs tours of village. No grocery stores but Waitrose (Taunton) delivers to the cottages. We used taxis a bit - good service from Tony on 07748 750554 and Nigel 07746 458446. £10 to Minehead. Other nice things - Freddie and Phoenix the cute ponies at Duddings Cottages; the West Somerset Railway; and the fine coastal path from Minehead to Porlock, out along the coast, back along the ridge. We caught the train at Dunster and walked back to Minehead from Watchet. Good bus service from Taunton railway station to Dunster. Cottage was comfortable. Good wifi. Poor phone reception around Dunster.

Castle View Cottage was a lovely apartment in which to spend our family holiday; it was very homely and well appointed, and the landlord Susan could not have been more welcoming and helpful.

Dunster is a lovely location, the castle and grounds are stunning as is the village itself. There is not a huge range of restaurants, the Luttrell Arms Hotel is lovely but quite expensive, the food at the Stags Head was hit and miss, and expensive for what it was. The big issue for us was the church bells, these seem to go on throughout the night, and being so close became a real problem, as my wife and I and our daughter were regularly woken in the middle of the night, or on some occasions kept awake for what felt like hours. The bells seem to play at 15 minute intervals, midnight seems to require a long discordant tune, then every 15 minutes is struck until at 01:00 there is another protracted chiming, on our last night we couldn’t decide if it was Oranges and Lemons, or something similar. At 05:00 every morning we were as a family woken by the bells playing out for several minutes, needless to say this wasn’t welcomed. We live in a village with a church so are used to church bells, but the church at Dunster is on another level entirely. Several shop keepers asked us how we felt about them, so they are clearly a talking point.

We really loved our stay at Castle View holiday cottage.

I visited along with my partner and two young girls, the cottage was so well equipped with everything we needed for our youngest including highchair, cot and stairgate and it made our stay so easy and comfortable. Susan was also really helpful and let us know she was available anytime we needed, she even went out of her way to post two toys our girls had left at the cottage back to our home. It's a truly stunning area of England with so much in walking distance or a short drive, the castle in Dunster was such a good day out and the village itself was delightful even with its own playground, great for breaking up the day with littlies. We would 100% recommend staying here to anyone and will hopefully be back in future :) P.S a note on the bells - we personally enjoyed them, they are a very unusual and quirky part of the stay, we a game of guessing what king of song it would play on each day and enjoyed listening to the different tunes. I honestly didn't notice them whilst sleeping beyond the first night but if you are particularly sensitive or uptight just maybe bring some earplugs...

The outdoor games area was well maintained, the indoor games room was equipped with table tennis, table football and a pool table which had all the balls for both pool and snooker. The pool table was in need of some TLC but had four or five cues a rest and chalk. The swimming pool was vary good with a large pool and hot tub. The upstairs bedrooms and bathroom of the accommodation were bright and hairy, but the down stair living area smelled of dog and three piece suite was tired, but comfortable and took several applications of Febreze to reduce the smell. Overall we had a good time and would stay there again. Ian from Manchester
