What our customers say about their holidays

We had a really good time.
Very modern. It was really good to have a decent, complete kitchen set rather than the one rusty saucepan, old plastic spoon and broken knife you might get elsewhere in older properties. The property owners have obviously spent some time thinking about what would make peoples lives easier while on holiday as everything was to hand and in good condition. Good internet was also a bonus to do research into day trips, you could probably do a working holiday too if you wanted to (you don't). Place was really clean. Beds and sofas were really comfy and it's in the right place as a base to go and visit...well...anywhere really. Its an hour and a bit to get to Dover by car and you can't get much further without getting your feet wet. Also 5 mins walk from the train station so you can hop on and do a tour of East Kent easily. Whitstable itself is a cross between independent shops and big multi's. There are 2, fantastic, independent coffee shops within a few minutes walk, but if you really want a costa, it's 10 minutes walk away in the center of town. You can get your beer from Sainsburys, or there is an independent store with local ales just down the road. You can get a fish supper from the Co-op, or you can go down the sea front and have it cooked almost fresh off the boat for you right then and there. Only 2 downsides, and I think this first one is known as every room had a (decent) fan, the place is HOT, especially the top room. The best airflow you could hope for was to open the back door and the Juliet window on the 1st floor. This meant that all the other doors had to be closed to stop them slamming. The other downside, and it's not really the properties fault, is getting your car in and out of Whitstable itself. Very narrow roads, but then the village is 400 years old. I'll probably be thin too by the time I get that old! That inconvenience is a small price to pay really. It is a very pleasant place to stay.

Property was very well equipped to the point of cluttered.
No where in kitchen to put any food weâd brought for the week except the fridge. Great having two kitchens though. Garden was very over grown and although charming not easily accessible in parts - may have been a worry if you had young children, my elderly mum had a problem accessing some parts of the garden. We had to clean down the garden furniture before using it. Next door are building a house so all week there was building work which started at 8am! Owner had left lots of tea/coffee/sugar etc. there was every utensil imaginable. So many towels and linen. The stay was really comfortable but more like staying at someoneâs house whilst they were still living there. Ruckinge is very rural. Nothing there except a church and a pub. But itâs only 15 minutes to the sea and a great place for walking. Property is good for taking your furry friends. All in all we had a good holiday and a lovely rest in this. quirky property. Thank you.

We liked: Immaculately clean.
Jacuzzi bath and good shower (drain will need attention soon). Nice jumbo towels, good bedding with clip-together duvets for different seasons. Bring your own beach towels. Well-equipped kitchen (we only missed a salad spinner!) Nice seaside themed paintings Parking on-site for one and nearby on-street parking Easy ten minute walk to the sea Kiddies park and shop nearby Welcome gifts, thank you We didnât like: The house is in Westmeads Road not Diamond Road, as given Blinds give privacy but donât block out light in top front bedroom - we had portable black-out with us Clearly stated in details but no bathroom on top floor we found was a nuisance for nighttime for us Thought there might have been beach supplies in the shed: buckets, spades, would have been welcomed Pull-out washing line would be helpful in the garden - the rack blows over in the wind Kiddies step-stools to reach basins would have been very useful

The owners met us to show us round and explain how things worked.
Every appliance had laminated instructions which were very helpful. We were given milk, tea bags, coffee, and drinking chocolate. Even nappy bags, dishwasher tablets and cleaning materials were in abundance. The book shelves had a wonderful supply of maps, guides and reading materials, including many on local history. Upstairs was light ,airy and tastefully decorated. We stayed downstairs ,being just a couple plus dog. The king sized bed was very comfortable. We both slept very well.We have experienced terrible beds in some self catering places. Unfortunately beds donât get a comfort standard in self catering, and it can be a gamble. We had the feeling that we were sharing someoneâs actual home, rather than a place with no atmosphere. The garden was well fenced so we didnât have the worry that our dog would escape. The Old Post Office is well situated for access to the Military Canal and dog walks, plus the Romney Marsh.

An odd property, which some visitors will hate : others will 'enjoy' its eccentricity.
Downstairs is very different from the self-contained flat upstairs. Downstairs was very dirty, with some of the owners bits and pieces left lying around. It was hazardous for the less mobile and children - loose carpets for example, with chemical cleaning products seemingly left around everywhere. The garden was an accident waiting to happen, with metal and other debris lying around,a slippery pathway in the wet ; a danger for the aged, less moblle, children ...... and dogs. The owner greeted us on arrival - very friendly chap, who had lit a lovely log fire for us. Indeed, logs were available (no charge) for the length of our stay. The house was nice and warm. But so scruffy. Lots of spider plants everywhere - presumably for the musty damp? The house downstairs and the garden needs better maintenance : but very well equipped up and down. And inexpensive out of season ..... you pays your money!
