What our customers say about their holidays

We really liked the cottage's location and the surrounding area.
The cottage is a good base to explore from, with many attractions & things to do being within close proximity or not too far of a journey to get to. We also enjoyed seeing all the different types of wildlife in the garden, fields & surrounding woodland. This was definitely a highlight. However, our stay was sadly affected by a few things. For example, there were issues with cleanliness. On arriving, there were dog hairs all over the living room furniture and in one of the downstairs bedrooms, with the smell from the bedroom being particularly bad. So we had to hoover the furniture & use air fresheners to try & remove the smell. We accept this cottage allows dogs, but this still isn't something we should have to do. There were also quite a few cobwebs around the house which we had to hoover up, which had been there for a long time as they were quite thick. Other issues besides this were that the velux windows in the top bedroom had holes in the surrounds and leak when it rains. The additional fridge in the outbuilding had lots of dead flies in it, even though the door was closed? A lot of the pans in the kitchen are way past their best & could do with replacing. However, the worst point is regarding the midge infestation in the top floor of the house, which led to my wife & I having to sleep in the living room. The midges were everywhere and we had no windows open at all. We had lots of bites & they just kept appearing. It was awful, very stressful and soured the whole stay. We accept midges outside as we have been to Scotland quite a few times, but we shouldn't have this issue inside the cottage.

The listing said NO pets.
There was copious amounts of dog mock on the front lawn...at least 10 separate bits just on one side if the lawn. Some 'new' others old. We usually play Frisbee on holiday (now a tradition) there was no chance to do that, even if the poo was cleared up we couldn't take the risk of contamination. There was also white dog hair all over the rug and seating in the lounge with the fire. It also smelt faintly of wet animal, not great. My husband is allergic to cats and dogs, being in the room made his eyes itchy and he kept sneezing, my father also had his eyes react after being in there. My son couldn't enter the room without developing a severe reaction of sneezing and streaming nose. It meant we either spent the evenings apart, or all sat in the kitchen area. It said no pets almost a year ago when we booked, so either people are ignoring this, the rug/seating hasn't been cleaned in this time, or someone is bringing a dog when they clean. Really not happy with this. No pets was a deciding factor in this property. The house itself was very nice. I contacted your out of hours emergency number, and the contact numbers as we suffered a loss of upstairs lighting, this was on Easter Sunday at 10:30pm. I have yet to hear back from the help desk (who I got hold of 11 hours after the issue, but we're going to let me know what was happening. A good job I found a number from an older email and the lady there not only phoned back but fixed the issue and let me know what was happening.

We had a lovely few days at Craigievar, despite arriving during Storm Babet!
The cottage is warm, clean, modern, spacious and comfortable. The kitchen is very well equipped, with everything you would need for your stay, and it was nice to receive the welcome pack, including wine. We had a small issue with the heating which was sorted out very quickly by the owner who lives next door. The weather was awful because of the storm, so we didn't venture far, so it was good to have Netflix as an alternative to the normal TV. The views from the cottage were still great, even in the bad weather, over the golf course towards the sea, where the waves were battering the shore in spectacular fashion, and also the imposing Slains Castle in the distance. We had a great meal in the St Olaf Hotel next door one night, very handy if you don't want to cook. We would happily return to Craigievar if we were going to stay up that way again. Thank you

Fabulous house in Muir-of-Ord, with everything you need for a comfortable stay.
Clean and modern, but also cozy and traditional at the same time. Furnished and decorated to a high standard. Comfortable beds. Well situated for visits to Black Isle (Cromarty a must), and western Ross-shire. Close to Inverness and accessible by rail if you don't want to drive. We visited (and swam in!) Loch Ness, walked up Ben Wyvis, watched dolphins at Chanonry Point, sampled whisky at the Ord Distillery, walked the shoogly bridge over Corrieshalloch Gorge, as well as visiting many of the local towns and villages. Food and drink stand-outs - Rocpool (casual fine dining) and Aspendos (Turkish) in Inverness and Slaughterhouse Coffee Shop (coffee and cakes) in Cromarty. Take-aways, Shimla (Indian) in Beauly and Bad Girl Bakery in Muir-of-Ord. And after a hard day being a tourist, it was great to sip a dram in front of the wood-burning stove!

Beautiful house and a perfect base for exploring the highlands.
The kitchen could have been better equipped, as 2 families of 4 we frequently ran out of cutlery and crockery. Poor selection of pans and were of poor quality. A larger stock pot would have been useful eg to make a mega spag bol. The knives were also blunt. When we arrived we needed to vacuum the kitchen as there was crumbs around the edges and in the corners. House was generally clean, but may be nicer to clean under the couches and beds every so often. The village has a bakery, a co op, a fabulous patisserie (Bad Gills bakery), a small park and some lovely walks. A great little farm shop (Robertsonâs) up the road with highland cows and alpacas for the kids. I can recommend the curry house in Beauly (Shapla?) and they will deliver to Old Manse. Overall, there was plenty space for all 8 of us and would recommend.
