What our customers say about their holidays

A very pretty, well-equipped cottage with ample space for 2 cars in the property's drive.
(Ours is a larger size vehicle.) The old cooking range in the kitchen is as amazing as it looks online, the cottage's real USP! The Sykes website doesn't mention it, but there is a washing machine in the kitchen too. The beds are very comfortable, the twin room was bigger than we thought it looked in the photo. The 2 king sizes beds have room underneath for storing your bags. The garden is a traditional country style garden which enjoys sun all day and even has a view of the top of Helmsley Castle. We were only about 3 or 4 minutes walk to the market square, with its small supermarket, which is open until late. There are a couple of very well-stocked local delis on the other side of the square. Helmsley boasts a number of good restaurants, cafes, a fish and chip shop, plus a very small department store and great independent shops. We treated ourselves to a lovely picture at The Saltbox Gallery. We enjoyed a drink at the Helmsley Brewery, which not only has a bar downstairs but, at weekends, has a great Cocktail Bar upstairs called The Angels Share. Helmsley even has a small petrol station, which was handy. 2 miles drive away in Harome is the famous gastropub, The Star Inn, and The Pheasant Hotel's restaurant - both excellent and highly recommended. We also had a lovely meal at The Fairfax Arms in Gilling East. (We used Helmsley Black Cabs when we ate outside of Helmsley so we didn't have to drive.) So, for us, Helmsley was the perfect place for a true experience of the North Yorks Moors, with all we needed on our doorstep. Thank you to the lovely, helpful, but not intrusive owner for a wonderful week in this beautiful cottage. (Also to our amazing friends who clubbed together to treat us to this cottage!)

Lovely, well maintained property located within easy walking distance of the centre of beautiful Helmsley.
Useful parking at the rear for two vehicles next to a small, quiet and secluded garden, which is perfect for reading a book in the sunshine with a glass of your favourite tipple. Storage space for clothing in the bedrooms is quite limited, which could be an issue for an extended stay, but if you know this in advance, then you can plan ahead. Storage space for kitchen supplies is also a bit limited, especially for a longer stay, especially if you prefer to do one enormous shopping trip at the start of your holiday. The bedrooms at the front of the property look out over the A170 and at certain times, traffic noise is quite noticeable, so if being out in the middle of nowhere in total silence is more to your taste, then this place may not be for you. On the other hand, if powered two wheelers float your boat, then Helmsley is a Mecca for motorcyclists and the main square is often frequented by machines of all shapes and sizes. We did have one very minor issue. One of the bedrooms has two single beds which can be zipped together if requested in advance. We requested this change, but unfortunately for whatever reason, the message didn't get through. Not a deal breaker for us as we just pushed the beds together! Also, we were unable to locate an information pack containing details of how to use the various appliances, but we figured it out so not really an issue for us. Our group of six really enjoyed the stay and would certainly consider coming back at some stage.

The townhouse is in the perfect spot.
It's quiet but right next to the Minister. There's loads of lovely restaurant, cafes and bars minutes away. The beds are comfortable and the bedding and towels were clean. The house had original sash windows so without the heating on it quickly got cold, but the heating worked quickly and soon heated it up. The little courtyard area out the back was nice. The kitchen is well equipt and large. Overall this is a lovely place, but it needs some touching up of paintwork and the shower tray is showing a bit mould. It really should be clear in the listing that there is only parking for one car, as we had two and it was really expensive to park it while we were there. The one recommended was £20 per day. This adds quite a bit to an already pretty expensive stay. One more little thing that's worth mentioning is that the handles are round and very smooth and because of their positioning they can be hard to grip easily. I had to be rescued from the toilet a couple of times because I could open the door. Lovely handles, but not the most practical. I just stopped closing the door properly .... Overall a really great central but quiet location and nice comfortable beds and sofas.

Instructions to the property were great until we got into Hutton le hole itself, but there were no lane/street signs for the last little bit and as there is no wifi or phone reception in the village at all, it meant we struggled to actually get to the cottage itself. Eventually we asked at the local pub and the very nice Landlord came out of the pub and took us to the cottage, its that close. The pub was delightful, a stone’s throw from the cottage and served delicious food, highly recommend! The cottage itself was absolutely gorgeous, just like the photos, but even better. It was spotlessly clean, with very comfortable beds and whiter than white crisp sheets and bedding. The property management company were great, very quick to respond to our emails. Our only complaint was the heating, we could not get ANY of the radiators to work, despite following the instruction in the guide book and the instructions from the property management company. Luckily there was a free standing plug in heater in one of the wardrobes, which we plugged in the bedroom shut the door and warmed one room up at a time. Apart from this everything else was great, and we would definitely stay again.

A beautifully thought out renovated cottage off the beaten track set in the grounds of the lovely owner’s grand residence-fabulous furnishings and a real feel that we were the first paying guests due to superb condition of everything inside! A wonderful array of books, all seemingly brand new, thoughtfully dotted around the cottage which was lovely. Very well equipped, instant hot water to all taps, and the provision of gorgeous spa type shower gels and shampoos was a lovely addition. The Plum and Pheasant nearby was a great place to eat, but if you go into The Golden Fleece in the middle of Thirsk, take a bag of smiles to pass around to the manager and employees-food and service was great, but everything done in a very somber cold way-truly strange!!!! And I just love good manners and a friendly disposition! A great area to explore and we shall certainly be back next year to enjoy another tranquil week away at this little gem of a cottage! Saying a big Thankyou to the owner, Sarah for making us so welcome!
