What our customers say about their holidays

Unfortunately we didn't receive a very warm welcome.
We booked the cottage in Jan and it was listed as dog friendly so we booked and paid for our small dog to come too. When I called to get key info the day before our arrival the owner said it would be ready for 4 and they would be in the door. (listing said ready for 3, but hey ho). She said she was busy and would come to see us on Mon morning. We arrived just after 4 and had just un packed the car when the owner turned up. On seeing our dog who was just sniffing around getting her bearings, the owner proceeded to tell us dogs not allowed in the bedrooms, hadn't we read their policy, had we brought blankets to cover the furniture at which point I said she doesn't go on the furniture. She then proceeded to tell us how much damage people and their dogs had caused and that was why she was no longer a dog friendly accommodation. All this time she stood with the patio door open, I asked twice if she wouldn't mind closing it so that our dog couldn't get out as the large gate onto the road was open. This was ignored and so I had to take my dog into the kitchen. We didn't receive any instructions on how to operate equipment at the property or how to find the badger cam that we'd read about. No friendly recommendations of nice places to go. The only info shared was negativity about our dog and how we must shower before using the hot tub. Just as well it is no longer dog friendly as the fields surrounding the cottage were beautiful and full of animals, but unfortunately no pavements on the road and no paths explained or found where we could walk the dog. On another subject we found it odd that there was a full sized dishwasher but only 4 cups, 4 plates 4 bowls 4 side plates. Very nice that the crockery was Denby, but again a negative note in the cupboard warning that any chips or cracks would be chargeable. Even worse that the kitchen sink was pot. Simple white crockery in abundance would have been preferable and more conducive to a relaxing break. We felt she had her priorities wrong and would have appreciated settees with more comfortable and supportive cushions. One of the seats in the jacuzzi was brown and the plastic coating was peeling off so we couldn't use it. It would have been helpful if there had been a folder with information about how to take the cover off the jacuzzi, how to turn it on and off, information about the area, the WiFi code, how to control the heating, restaurants to go to, the badger cam etc. Instead we were insulted and made to feel uncomfortable, tarred with a brush meant for others who had previously caused damage.

Fantastic cottage for a family of 4.
Spacious, warm, clean, homely, with everything we needed for a week and longer. Children had plenty of space to play, ride bikes outside and farm dogs made best company for them. Do bring heavy duty balls and a chucker with you as they love playing fetch. Playroom and hot tub were used almost every day to chill and relax after cold day outside. We had Netflix on TV which was amazing and not expected. All appliances worked perfectly. Dishwasher, washing machine and a tumble dryer makes it so easy to care for a family. Aileen and Andrew were mega friendly and welcoming from the arrival to waving good buy as we were leaving. Girls cried how they loved the place and wanted to stay. They is an uplifting vibe about the whole farm which we picked up straight away. Family even allowed us to go round their farm and learn many facts about livestock we had no idea existed. Family works very hard to keep the farm beautiful, operational and very welcoming. Very inspirational to experience it in Scotland. We loved our rural week with the girls and will definitely come back next year. Thank you, Aileen and Andrew, for allowing us to experience a very different break we so needed. See you next year! Great house in a fantastic location. Very warm and comfortable and loved all the walks and wildlife. Unfortunately, the hottub was not working and whilst we were told about this a few days before arriving, from reading the visitor book, it's obvious the hottub hasn't worked much since the start of the year. We think it's disingenuous to keep marketing the hottub if its mostly not working! We also had no way to light the wood burner, as the gas lighter was empty and no matches provided. There were emergency matches but these were old and damp so of no use to us, or in an emergency. We tried the caretakers on all 3 of the numbers provided but received no callback despite leaving a voicemail. Given the isolated nature of the property perhaps a call from the caretaker when each guest has settled in would be helpful? The only form of contact from the house is a pay phone, which seems mean and impractical given many people don't carry cash these days. We very much enjoyed our stay but a few items above need attention. We had no difficulties but if we had, there is no real provision for emergencies.

Would highly recommend Dourie Farmhouse for a holiday retreat it's very spacious, clean and has so many many more qualities. The garden is large and has an walled parameter that was a safe area for our 2 escape artist dogs we were able to relax knowing they couldn't get out. The covered courtyard was a fantastic bonus too you can shelter from the sun and enjoy being outside in the rain. All bedrooms are a great size, the kitchen well where do you start has everything you would possibly need and completely home from home. We loved this farmhouse so much our relatives have now booked a week away and we will definetly be back too. And don't forget to pop down to Port William there is a beautiful restaurant The View - ran by the PIRSAC that can't be missed food and service are second to none.

We had a great stay at the loft, we loved the hustle and bustle of the working farm completely different atmosphere to what we're used to and loved being surrounded by nature.
The location was great and easily accessible to many areas with a drive. The hot tub was an added bonus, which we all enjoyed. One very large room with 2 double beds and a smaller room with a double bed, my boys were made up getting to sleep in their own double bed whilst I had the smaller room for myself. Everyone was lovely and welcoming. Aileen was a great host and even shown us around the farm where I got to see my beloved Highland cows. Thank you for a great stay, which was exactly what I needed a break away from everything, making our stay a wonderful home from home. When we arrived there was a lovely bouquet of fresh flowers, milk and biscuits again exactly what was needed after a long journey. Thank you Aileen and Andrew for a great stay, I will be back again in the future
