  Although we enjoyed our stay, as the location was amazing and the accommodation was roomy I would list the following points that need attention Kitchen Water left in kettle, which also needs descaling and crumbs left in toasters.

  There was no salt or rinse aid in the dishwasher so I texted the owner, Wendy, to ask for some and also towels were not available for the hot tub, even though in the folder left for us by the owner, told us to only use these in the hot tub. The cleaner came the next day with these items. There was only one small frying pan, which also had seen better days. Otherwise the kitchen was large and ok. Living Room This room was very dusty and had cobwebs. There was dust and dirt around edges of wooden floor and foot marks on it too. The settees were very old and worn out and very uncomfortable and need replacing. The patio door windows were extremely dirty. The patio doors also were hard to lock at times. Bedrooms Downstairs bedroom was spacious and light and airy but there was dust and hairs in the drawers and very dirty patio doors again. The upstairs bedrooms were also light and airy and spacious. There is ample hanging and drawer space. Lovely views. Upstairs shower room Needs renovating. Paint peeling off walls. Shower had black mould on it and shower glass doors were marked with water. Toilet had dark brown stains in it. Downstairs bathroom was spacious with large bath and other than toilet not being cleaned properly, was great. No toilet brush available for cleaning. Walls up the stairs are marked and could do with repainting. Carpet had large mark on it under radiator upstairs what looked like water had leaked on it. The garden could do with some general tidying up with weeds growing through the stones. I think attention needs to be made to the general cleaning of the house but also some maintenance to the areas I have mentioned.

  What an amazing property! The barn was spacious, immaculately clean and very very comfortable. Beds were divine with pillows and bedding to match the luxury. Crockery and cutlery were abundant and enough I think to cater for the whole village! This barn is great for a multi generational get together. We spent New Year there and were able to spread out in different areas of the barn to suit each family member. The weather was absolutely atrocious so didn’t take much advantage of vast garden. It was however good to look out and watch the weather against the vineyards behind. I’m sure in nicer weather it would have been fab for al fresco dining etc. Outside games room in the bad weather was a hit with everyone and a table tennis tournament was a regular evening activity! Sam and Phil were excellent hosts. Communication prior and during our stay was brilliant. There were a couple of requests and they were “on it” immediately. They also gave us recommendations where to go! All in all a fantastic week away! Will definitely return!

  We have just returned from a long weekend at Berisal (four generations of one family.

  ) We all thoroughly enjoyed being at the property. The owners kindly provided us with a digital copy of a guide to the house before we arrived. This thoughtful gesture was so useful and meant that we didn’t have to spend the first half hour or so of our visit familiarising ourselves with the house. The house was spotlessly clean and we were greeted with a lovely card and welcome basket when we arrived. The beds were very comfortable and plenty towels and linens were supplied. The kitchen was well equipped Everything was just as shown on the website. The garden was immaculate and the hot tub was really appreciated by those who used it – my son, my granddaughter and her partner we’re brave enough to get in in cold February. The games room was heated and had its own toilet. The house was comfortable and we never felt cold. I can certainly recommend this property and for a multigenerational family like ours it was simply one of the best places we have stayed with Sykes.

  As a family group of 10, we have stayed at many Rural Retreat properties and everyone agreed that Bokes Barn was the best so far by a mile. This time we were accompanied by my 16 month old granddaughter and a dog, so a new experience for everyone. The layout of the converted farm barn was really well thought out, with the concrete beams remaining in situ as a novel feature. The provision of two dishwashers was a definite time saving benefit, as in other properties, normally only one dishwasher was provided. The outside patio area was well appointed and well used, with the outdoor games such as Boules and a large size Jenga being popular. The separate games room also proved popular for darts and pool. The owners Sam and Phil were extremely helpful, available for any question, yet not at all intrusive, in fact the ideal hosts.
