What our customers say about their holidays
Sarah - Verified booking
Lovely looking property inside and out, and very clean!
However, we really noticed where money had been saved, such as the paper thin hangers in the wardrobes, which couldnât even support the weight of a pair of trousers. Additionally, the mattresses were very, very soft and in the double room my husband and I just rolled into the middle where there was no support under the bed at all. The 3 seater sofa was also very soft and we were nearly at the floor if we sat in the middle! I think it must be a sofa bed but this meant again there was nothing other than the cushion under us if we sat there. By the end of the week, all 4 of our backs were aching! Additionally, the listing says that things like toilet roll and dishwasher tablets are provided so we didnât bring any but we were left with 2 dishwasher tablets and a small roll of toilet roll in each toilet, which wasnât enough given that we cooked a full meal for 4 each evening and were there for a full week. Unfortunately, as we checked in at 5.30ish on the Friday, reception was closed and there was only an emergency number to call. I did text it to say we didnât have enough (as this didnât feel like an emergency) but I didnât hear anything back and, as we had to go shopping and the bits we had wouldnât last until Monday when staff were next in, we just bought more dishwasher tablets and toilet roll (annoying as have plenty at home and would have bought this had I known we would receive so little rather than buying new packs). It does seem strange that for a holiday site that takes bookings for arrivals on Fridays only that they then have no staff in for the whole weekend and staff work normal Friday hours! Maybe this should be re-thought? Either way, we just sorted ourselves and didnât mention to staff (other than the text) come Monday as it would have been to no effect for us. Lastly, Wales has very strict recycling rules (fair enough!) but, given the site really wants you to recycle properly and makes it clear in the welcome pack, they didnât make it easy at all. For example, food waste should be separated but we couldnât even find a food waste bin outside⦠although it did appear later in the week. Additionally, there was no extra facility within the lodge to separate out recycling, food waste etc which meant that we needed to manually separate out everything in the lodge using kitchen bowls (food waste) and bags we had brought with us unless we were to walk to the bins all the time! Then, to top it off, the bins outside were overflowing (other than general waste) which meant that other types of recycling started being loaded up outside of the bins. Just seems that this should have been better thought out too. I (honestly!) wouldnât normally mention all these things but the images and, genuinely, the look of the property itself are lovely but the money saving tactics used that you canât see until arrival did make us feel we had an inaccurate listing that was slightly overpriced. We did receive a small discount prior to arrival as the lodge we actually booked was sold a few weeks before we were due to arrive but this move was labelled an âupgradeâ but we really donât believe it was (other than the addition of the hot tub, which only one of us was interested in using anyway) but we accepted it as it was too late to cancel/change our other holiday plans which we had booked months in advance (inc our tickets to Skomer Island, which for 4 totalled around £200 a day and we were going twice).

A beautiful barn conversion in a beautiful location.
We had an amazing break and our dogs loved the beautiful garden to run around in. On the clear evenings the star-gazing is amazing with almost no light pollution. Good facilities and we would have given this property and location a full 5 stars, but we have knocked 1 star off because there were some maintenance issues that need to be addressed. We have reported this to the property owners. The downstairs bathroom basin tap was extremely loose and the plug was stuck down which meant during the time of the break one of us could not use the basin. Other maintenance such as cooker hob/cupboard under lighting does not work. Not so much of issue normally, but this area of the kitchen is darker and you need the additional lighting to cook. Also, the bottom, larger oven, did not work. Please don't let this put you off booking, as we are sure the owners will fix these issues for the next visitors. This is a lovely property, large with lots of storage and beautiful views. The utility room is extremely handy, as it keeps very warm and so it's good for drying dog towels, walking boots, washing, etc. A good place to come in from dog walking as you can clean them off before entering the main house. Important to note that the garden is not enclosed. Although the access road is remote and quiet, the owners property is at the back and their dogs pop over to the property for a visit. Not a problem for us, but could be a problem for people who have dogs that are not so tolerant of other dogs. The location is great for exploring Pembrokeshire/Cardigan Bay. 15-20 minutes drive away is Newport Beach. It is a beautiful, sandy beach that is dog friendly. It has toilets and a shack on the beach that even sells dog friendly ice cream! Just a short walk up the road is the golf clubhouse and restaurant where dogs are also allowed and you can get food and drinks, etc. We had a great stay and would certainly recommend the property and location.

Lovely large house for an extended family stay.
Common area at the back with large grass area for games, swings and zip wire, as well as 2 large picnic tables. Really good for younger children. Also a couple of goats and cows in the back field. Lots of space inside the house for different groups of people doing games, watching TV or chilling out. Undercover hot tub - can easily fit 6, if not more. Lovely decoration in the house, lots of chairs and sofas in the rooms for a quieter time. Lovely, helpful and friendly hosts as well. Lots to do locally, I was concerned that might not be the case as this part of Pembrokeshire is not as well known. Between 10 and 20 minutes away: Local beach at Newport is medium sized - even larger with the tide out. Has some great small caves, but keep and eye on the tide. Lovely smaller beaches either side of Dinas Island. Lovely coastal walk around Dinas Island as well, though there are some steep and rocky sections. See Walescoastalpath.gov.uk for more walks. Local Iron Age fort with activities (check before you go as not every day). Shortish drives to local mills who weave beautiful wool, one is called Melin Tregwynt (35 and 45 minutes). Also St Davidâs with the amazing Cathedral. Reservoir with water activities about 25 minutes away, called Llys-y-fran, also cycling, but the route around the reservoir was a bit of a challenge with several steep hills with slate. Not too far is Picton Castle, lovely to look around with gardens and there are escape rooms - very reasonably priced. Go-karting at westwaleskarting about 30 minutes away. Fantastic fish and chip shop in Crymych, also a lovely health food shop who bake their own Welsh cakes - definitely recommended. Hope that gives you confidence to book this fantastic accommodation and have lots to do locally!! We also booked the smaller house next door to give us even more rooms - beautifully renovated.

The property was warm and large enough in terms of living, sleeping and dining space, but one bathroom and toilet is not sufficient for the size of the property.
The garden isn't secure with gaps and broken panels in the fence, which would allow my small dogs to escape. The garden also had feaces in it, which made it a problem for my dogs. I had to clean them on the first day And after that I couldnt allow them to go outside without a lead. The hottub had far too much chemical in it, it made my families hands peel. The dishwasher wasn't working and the hot tap in the kitchen wasn't working well, so using the hot water from this source to wash up was a problem. We boiled the kettle each time we needed to wash up. Some of the crockery was chipped, and old. Generally the property was comfortable enough, and we enjoyed our holiday but this property needed some maintenance. It felt unloved, it needed some TLC and a spring clean. It could be a really good property with a little bit of attention and maintenance. In terms of ratings, we felt that it falls short of 4.7 out of 5, and is the most disappointing of the 4 properties we have visited from Sykes Cottages site. Some of the things I've listed in my feedback are already documented in the visitors book, and still haven't been actioned. The property location is very quite, and in that way, a good place for a relaxing break. However, within a few miles there are local facilities and access to a small town. We received some locally sourced food item's on arrival, these were appreciated.

Well where do I start.
... we got to the little haven resort after a 5 hour drive from Nottingham on Sat 21st Oct and someone was in our lodge! I called the emergency number on the 3rd time a guy answered and said he would come over from Tenby be about 40 mins, he never met us there. In the meantime I saw a maintenance manager who said he may have a solution!! We was put in a beautiful lodge but this was only available as they had a cancellation due to floods on the Friday otherwise we would of been up the creek without a paddle!! The chap who I spoke to on the phone I have since learned he's the director. I am disspointed he never even called to see if we was OK being as he never came down. The lodge we was transfered to was owned by Jacque and Rodger it's called Oyster and lovely. Just to say Amanda at Little Haven Retreat who I saw on the Monday (as no one was in reception over the weekend as it was closed) has given us a discount on our next booking. I do however think if you have check ins over the weekend there should be someone there to check in as things happen obviously. If it wasn't for the maintenca guy and oyster being available we would of been stranded and had to look elsewhere for alternate accommodation we was away for our brother in laws birthday and also our wedding anniversary so this was added stress we did not need after a long journey. 1st and last time bokking through sykes sorry to say.
