What our customers say about their holidays

Well equipped, nicely decorated cottage.
The owners have included all the items you need to make it a home from home. Really lovely kitchen with everything you need. There was tea, coffee, sugar and fresh milk provided as well as a bottle of prosecco. There were also a few basic condiments and cooking oils which was a welcome find....as a lot of places we've stayed don't provide these. Tons of useful information on the local area and walks and a big array of toys, board games and DVDs were also provided. The cottage was well-presented tidy and clean in the main areas that mattered. There was quite a lot of dust and cobwebs however that hadn't been addressed. From a comfort perspective this is a personal preference of course, most visitors commented on comfy beds but for me they were too soft and meant a lot of difficulty sleeping. But it's hard to please everyone on mattress preference. All the garden chairs have fixed-width arms, which means for a wider person these are uncomfortable and pinch. I found the sofa and armchair in the living space really comfy but only enough room for 3 people to sit so if 4 people are staying at the cottage then one person misses out. A non-slip mat for the shower would be beneficial and some shelf space in the bathroom would also be a welcome addition. We really enjoyed the hot tub, this is a great addition and really fantastic to relax in after a long hike. Easy to park one car outside the front and space for other cars in the Mill car park next door. A lovely place from which to explore the Dales.

In terms of your tick rating we were quite disappointed with this property.
We have self catered a lot so have several places to compare it with. The beds were comfy though comfort in super king suffered because of âtwinâ join. In a general sense the cottage was clean - bathroom, toilets etc and the heating system worked well so warm and cosy. However here is a list of some of the main things we feel let us down Limited kitchen equipment eg no sieve to drain rice, initially no cafetière, no pyrex basins, measuring jug, scales etc. Filthy grill and oven. Guest book comments would suggest this has been the case for sometime! Impossible access to fridge/freezer, grill and oven once people are seated at the table Kitchen table and seating only really caters for six people General impression of kitchen was that it needed revamping and reorganising Extractor fan in downstairs loo blew out dirty fluff Loo brushes and holders needed renewing Upstairs shower screen leaked badly over floor Inadequate storage for clothing. Ridiculous coathangers. Looked as though they were a job lot from Mothercare . Could not hang adult trousers on them. Television wouldnât work because the aerial socket was broken Generally we felt the cottage looked âtiredâ and worn and needed a redo especially as we stayed at the beginning of the season the standard was not good. We felt it was ok if you wanted to drink wine (overflowing with wine glasses!), use the hot tub and eat at the pub, not if you were serious about âself cateringâ. By the way, the hot tub was great.

We loved our week at this property.
On arrival we were greeted by a lovely cake and welcome pack from the owner which was a lovely touch after our drive. The kitchen was bright and fresh and had everything you could possibly need only slight suggestion is to maybe look at some new frying pans as the ones there are starting to lose their non-stick. The coffee machine wasn't listed on the description which was a lovely bonus on arrival so we could have a lovely coffee. The sitting room again was lovely and bright and had enough seating for everyone. The owner provided lots of blankets for sitting outside and materials for starting a fire in the wood burner. the bedrooms had so much space in them and were also so very comfy so it was lovely to go to bed after a long day exploring. The hot tub was beautiful and again perfect for a couple of hours in the afternoon when we stayed in rather than explore. I love how secure the garden was for the two dogs this truly is a pet friendly property. Only a couple of things were the communications on arrival information/times were varying across different messages via Sykes, owner and advert even after confirming with Sykes the check-in time. Also the adverts doesn't state there are steps throughout the property on each level apart from the main stairs. For us it wasn't a problem but with a family member becoming less mobile a little notes about this might be worth considering. We look forward to visiting again.

What can I say?
! This place was just perfect. We arrived a couple of days before Christmas and it was decorated with a tree etc which was lovely. The owner had also left a card, a bottle of mulled wine and Prosecco too as well as milk, tea, coffee etc. We were instantly chilled and relaxed. The cottage itself is great. Very clean everywhere with supplies of dishwasher tablets etc and some cleaning products if needed. The bed was wonderfully comfortable and fluffy towels provided too. The kitchen is very well equipped which was great as I cooked a full Christmas dinner. We were very cozy as the heating is easy to use plus we used the log burner too which was so nice especially Christmas night. There was a small supply of logs to get you started but we had brought some with us. The hot tub is just sublime. We spent a lot of time using it with our music playing on the outside speaker also provided. The garden is nice and secluded so we didnât feel like we were a nuisance to anyone by being outside at nighttime. The owner also left flip flops to use but we had taken our own. There are so many lovely, homely touches that make the place extra special. The day before we arrived the owner called to see if we had any questions and he texted soon after our arrival to make sure all was ok. We stayed for 5 days and were sorry to leave. It really was the most magical Christmas in a beautiful place. Thank you.

The Ramblers Retreat is a lovely little cottage, perfect for our needs with twin boys and a dog, my son loved the upside down cottage which was very cleverly thought out.
The beds were comfortable and the bedrooms were spacious and airy, the modern shower room was easy to use, it would have been great to have a shelf in there though. Upstairs the living area was comfortable, it was a lovely touch with the dog blankets, keeping well loved pooches off the furniture is very hard, especially when you leave them to go to bed, the blankets solved this issue, which I think was great. The kitchen was well equipped for our needs. We also had the bonus of a welcome gift of some bubbly with a card, but also, milk, dog treats and everything you needed to make a cuppa. The property also has lots of maps and guides on where to go, aswell as, lots of books, games and toys for younger visitors. Outside is a cute courtyard with a hot tub which is kept at 38 at all times. It's just a perfect little cottage. The only way it could be improved is by having a shelf in the bathroom and maybe some notepads for planning adventures. Thank you so much for a perfect week.
