What our customers say about their holidays
Idah - Verified booking
Below is an email I sent to Highgate property landlord.
1. When we arrived at your property there was no welcome package, with this I mean; a small bottle of milk, few biscuits, bottle of cordial etc just to allow us to have a cup of tea and a little break before navigating ourselves to local shops. I think it's important thay clients have this considering most people would have driven long distance to get to your property. 2. You kindly asked us to water your plants which in my book is not our responsibility considering we were on holiday but we went ahead and made sure your plants were watered daily. 3. You advertised your property as having a barbacue grill which we didn't find and you only provides us with one after we asked for it.To add on to this the grill was still in its box and your expectation was that we assemble it for you even though it was part of the package we had already paid for. Again we obliged and did the best we could assembling it. We could have made a fuss about this because it took us a lot of time from our holiday to try and build stand but we didn't because we are aware that such things happen. 4. To be very honest with you, your property was tidy but not as clean as you made it up to be, it was dusty especially in the kids bedrooms behind radiators etc but again we got on with it because we didn't want to ruin our holiday. 5. We couldn't find any bags to put the laundry and an instruction from sykes website stated we could leave dirty laundry in a pile in the bathrooms which we tried to do . Your cleaners only had to strip 2 single beds, remove a few food items from the fridge, clean a dressing table and collect a bag of recyclable bottles which was outside already and you decided to charge £100 from single mothers who were simply trying to give their children a bit of a nice holiday. Sorry for rumbling on but I thought I'll let you know how I felt. I also understand that you are only doing your job so I understand if you decide not to do anything about this email. Thanks

The house is big with plenty of space.
Kitchen and wet areas well supplied with all you need. Hot tub is great. However, routine maintenance and DIY repairs are not top of their list! The major problem for us was an infestation of flies which we had to deal with ourselves! Hundreds of flies entering the en-suite until we found where they were getting in and fixed it with no help from the owners except for 2 cans of flyspray. On the first night I saw flies gathered in the en-suite velux window so asked my son to open it to let the flies out - BIG mistake - when he opened it - hundreds of flies dropped on us and also entered the bedroom. It was like a horror movie! We didn't contact the owner because we know they were out celebrating a birthday but later when I did ask them to come and fill the hole in the ceiling where they were getting in, they left 2 cans of flyspray on the doorstep and said we should expect it in the country! We ended up taping over the hole in the ceiling. Every time, for 4 days out of 6, if I wanted to use the en-suite I had to vacuum up all the dead flies then spray fly killer as I left. Radiators needed bleeding - Pool table was broken - some door catches stick and trap youngsters in rooms - lounge sofa springs gone - thin towels - some beds hard. Not at all what you expect in such an expensive property. I complained and asked for a partial refund which was refused so I am now taking the matter to County Court. We will not be returning

Maes Madog is like a little treasure trove!
Location wise it is fantastic for exploring Snowdonia, albeit it is a very small, narrow, extremely steep hill you go up to get to the property (all part of the adventure). We had a Tesco delivery to supply us with all our food and drink for our visit. There are small Spar Supermarkets in the villages but you need to go to Porthmadog or Bangor to get to the bigger supermarkets. The rooms are lovely and spacious, yet cosy at the same time. Lots of period features including the original stove in the pool room, a wood burner, lovely wooden furniture in the bedrooms contrasted with modern kitchen and bathrooms. The hot tub was a super treat. I was adamant that visiting in February, we wouldn't me making use of it. Oh was I so wrong, I was the first one in there every night and the whole group of us used it each day. The kitchen has all the equipment you need to be able to stay in a cook evening meals for 8 and the dishwasher also meant breakfast dishes could be washed and ready for evening meals. Good size fridge freezer and the hob and oven were amazing - 4 gas rings, a griddle, a warmer, 2 ovens and a grill and a warming drawer for the plates! The only down side I would say is if you are above 5'3" be prepared to keep ducking your head to get through doorways. This is a 300 year old cottage, what do you expect!

Cottage was very lovely, Jayne was very welcoming and left use Welsh cakes, cream eggs and x2 bottles of prosecco.
And not forgetting the lillies. The view around the property were stunning with little lambs running around playing :0) there was a resident cat who visited daily, he or she was very friendly so donât forget to feed it and give him some love if you do visit. There was 8 of us, sitting around the television at night felt a little small for 8 but if you have a few small friends like we did then it shouldnât feel too bad. The only downside was the log burner, although Jane was very accommadating and brought use logs and got logs delivered the next day, they were very wet so the fire never really got going, the heating only came on for several hours a day which left us quite cold. The whole cottage was clean and has all facilities to cook, the dish washer was a bonus. The hot tub was a treat and we didnât really move from there. Fresh towels were given to all 8 people which was nice. Over all the place is gorgeous would definitely go again, only be more prepared and bring my on logs which I can get going and perhaps for a longer period to enjoy some of the walks we didnât get to go on due to the weather Thank you so much for a lovely stay

What a beautiful place to spend a week with our family.
We were welcomed with a lovely card from the owner and some tasty bread, biscuits, butter and milk, which were gratefully received. The house is in a beautiful area of Snowdonia within easy driving reach of Conwy and Llandudno. There are plenty of attractions in these towns for the children as well as further afield in Bangor and Anglesy. The house was well presented and very clean. It provided everything we needed with two very comfortable family areas and the bedrooms and bathrooms were great for our group of nine. The garden area was usefully split with the hot tub and barbecue areas fenced off. This helped with keeping the dogs segregated when required. We had a lovely holiday and would definitely recommend it to other larger groups. One small point; the bedrooms would benefit from a chest of drawers for non-hanging items. Thanks very much Nicky. We had a great time.
