  A Hidden Gem – Tranquil, Romantic, and Perfect for Nature LoversWe’ve just returned from our third stay on the Belchamp Hall estate, this time in the beautiful Mill House, and we’re already planning to go back. Nestled at the end of a private road in a serene and secluded setting with a pond and a wonderful view across countryside, the home offers complete peace and quiet – the perfect escape from the hustle of daily life.We personally met the owners who made us feel very welcome and advised us not to hesitate to contact them if we needed anything. The property is immaculately maintained and tastefully decorated, with every comfort thoughtfully provided. They also left a very generous welcome pack, a basket full of quality foodstuffs including delicious bread, croissants, breakfast cereal, butter, milk, as well as coffee (including Nespresso pods), tea, etc. - more than enough to avoid a trip to the supermarket as soon as you arrive. Another generous gesture is that you can also help yourselves to extra firewood for the wood stove - if you use it - at no extra cost.What makes it truly unforgettable, though, is the romantic ambiance and stunning natural surroundings. The estate offers walking trails right from the doorstep – we took our daughter’s dog for walks through woodland, open fields and along tranquil streams - she loved it!Far from any traffic or city lights, it’s rare to find a place that feels so private, yet so welcoming.If you're looking for a romantic retreat where you can truly unwind, reconnect, and enjoy the beauty of nature, this is it. Absolutely idyllic – we can’t recommend it highly enough.

  What a wonderful place this is. Located in a beautiful, historic, semi-rural part of Essex just outside Colchester, quiet but just 20mins from the heart of city and with other small towns and villages nearby. The property has been very sensitively renovated, to create functional, comfortable holiday accommodation that retains its historical characteristics. Inside, there is more space that one might imagine with two receptions, a large, well-equipped kitchen and downstairs WC, plus two large bedrooms, both with large ensuite bath/shower rooms. The beds are really comfortable. All that was missing for us was a full-length mirror and hooks on the back of the doors (hoping the owner will add these!). We cook every day and found the kitchen had everything we needed (although no salt/pepper that we could find - please add this!). The oven and hob were clean and really easy to use. Outside, the space is extensive and private and the inclusion of a hot tub is very welcome (staff check it daily on weekdays but are friendly and unobtrusive). Ideal for relaxing and also as a base for exploring the local area. Just half an hour away from the lovely beach at Mersea Island. There are another five lodges on the site but they are some distance away from Crows Hall, although as guests of the estate we were free to roam the entire site, which includes a fishing lake, which we really appreciated. We have stayed in many self-catering places and this is one of the best.

  When we holiday in the UK we always take extra things with us, like a sharp knife, a large frying pan extra tea towels....that sort of thing. When reading up on The Hatchery, others had stated everything had been thought of. We were sceptical, but we needn't have been! Literally anything you could want from a 'Home from Home' holiday property has been thought of and catered for! Inside the property first impressions were not just how impeccable it was but how clean it was and how beautiful it smelled and the 'Welcome Pack' wow!! this was gratefully received. So many little extras have been thought of, which all mounted up to a stress free holiday. Seriously if you needed something, it was there!! Outside is just as stunning and with plenty of room for everyone. The hot tub was a big hit and was used regularly.   Stunning! A beautiful, well presented property in a peaceful area. Without doubt the best holiday home myself and friends have stayed in. As a group of friends celebrating our 40th’s it was the perfect location. The property was spotless! It had everything we needed and more. So grateful for the wonderful welcome hamper which kept us going (when our food order was delayed)! The owner was so helpful when we had a small request. He came straight over and kindly supported us. The hot tub, wood burner, appliances, equipment, outside space, the blankets and even down to the hand soap - everything was fabulous! Thank you so much for making our weekend so special. We can’t wait to book in again hopefully next year!

  The Hatchery is a great place for a weekend away. It was immaculate upon arrival and there is great attention to detail. Every little thing you can think of is provided and more. Plenty of parking available. We thought allowing the arrival of food shopping before check in was very good and the welcome hamper is the best I have ever received. Dogs are catered for and the washing stations at the back are a fantastic, well thought through add on. The garden however is not enclosed so could be a problem for some dog owners. The fire was made up ready for our arrival which was much appreciated. The owners were contactable and responded to my query in great time with effective communication. Would highly recommend.
