What our customers say about their holidays
Lorraine - Verified booking
Firstly let me say this is probably one of the best apartments in Ilfracombe.
Itâs beautifully appointed and overlooks the sea. It is well equipped with good quality furnishings. Unfortunately, that is where the good news ends. On our arrival, we found the keys easily enough and tried using the tag to open the security gate to gain access. It didnât work. A phone call revealed that it was defective and had to be opened manually. Inconvenient but not a big problem. Secondly, in 32C we find the lift doesnât work either. The apartment is on the fourth floor, so my wife and I who are in our mid 60s with various health issues have to drag our heavy cases up several flights of stairs in the stifling heat. We climb these stairs all week as the lift isnât repaired until Thursday afternoon when it manages just one journey before breaking down again with the same apparent fault. On entering the apartment, we find the waste bin broken..not just broken but falling to bits. The toilet seat in the en suite Is broken and thereâs a peanut in one of the bowls in the living area. This is despite us effectively losing nearly a day of our holiday due to the alleged additional deep cleaning of the premises due to the current COVID 19 pandemic. This is an expensive property to rent and we did so because it promised a lift and high quality accommodation. After several days of struggling up the stairs we finally gave up and left a day early. Frankly, it was not at all impressive and we wonât be returning.

This comfortable home-from-home was just the luxurious treat we needed.
The obvious winner was being able to look out of the balcony doors over the ocean from both the bedrooms and living room, but this superb experience was matched indoors by the attention to quality and detail in the fixtures and fittings - DO investigate the coffee table! Spotlessly clean, essentials sometimes missed such as washing up liquid, anti-bac soap, tea towels and toilet roll were left for us - we took our own dishwasher and laundry tabs. Centrally located, the apartment is ideal for visiting the local beaches, countryside and attractions, and the Ilfracombe takeaways mainly have delivery services which you might find important while Covid is still around. The local Lidl is just a 5 minute walk away, but only if you're not afraid of the hill on the way back! There is one puzzle that amused us but irritated our teenager - the twin bedroom door cannot be closed unless the nearest bed is pulled to be on a diagonal across the room. Whether this is because the beds are new, and longer than the old ones, or perhaps the room has been rearranged, but it seemed a bit incongruous with the otherwise thoughtful and tasteful presentation of the rest of the apartment. Having said that, the whole family would have no hesitation in staying again should the opportunity arise.

Absolutely fabulous!
! âï¸ What a place to stay, off the beaten track and surrounded by woodland. The perfect spot to unwind and relax but so close to all the beaches and attractions of North Devon. We had the most amazing week, relaxing and exploring Devon and the house was just the perfect place to base ourselves, a gorgeous Edwardian house with huge rooms and everything you could wish for was provided. Plus a fabulous bathroom and bath big enough to lie fully down in. I wish we could have stayed for longer. Saffron and Shelby (the owners) are great and do anything to make your stay more enjoyable. Our fur baby was greeted with treats and toys and they even provide a dog bed to make her stay as comfortable as ours. Lots of places nearby to eat, the Sawmils at the top of the road did great pub grub and the Dolphin in Combe Martin had a fabulous Sunday carvery, if you can, try the Blue Groove in Croyde their mussels are divine, so many other great cafes and eateries to choose from. Then pick up a couple of cheeky bottles of Devon cider to take back to the Woodlands and enjoy them sitting on the veranda with perfect views. Thoroughly enjoyed ourselves and it is definitely a place we would return too. Thank you The Woodlands/Saffron/Shelby you are super stars.âï¸

It would have been useful that in the description about the apartment that it told you that it was at the top of a very steep hill, and had I have known that from the outset I am not sure I would have been it.
However it had amazing views and was a very comfortable place to stay. The broken gate needs to be remedied soon as my friend and I found it very difficult to move and for older people it would be extremely difficult for them to push back and then pull across. Within the property the light in the cooker hood was not working, nor were two of the lights in the en-suite over the mirror. The sliding balcony door in the main bedroom does not appear to shut properly in the top right hand corner, as we had really strong winds on Thursday and Friday last week, and on both nights I was woken by the wind whistling through the door. Could I suggest that the information regarding the wi fi is put on one of the notices as it is very difficult to read the information on the hub as the writing is so small and even with glasses I found it almost impossible to read. Could I also suggest that a notice is put up asking people to empty the toaster before they leave, as it obviously had not been emptied for several weeks when I used it on the Sunday morning. We would certainly book with Sykes again as we had a lovely time away during a very difficult year in a very nice part of the country and in a very nice property. Thank you Carole Upton

A lovely cottage in the perfect location for making the most of all that Ilfracombe has to offer; all within a short walk. The cottage is very comfortable, well equipped and beautifully furnished. The views from the kitchen, living room and bedroom are fabulous and there is an outside balcony to take in the views and also a self-contained garden which was perfect for our two little Shih Tzus. There was a lovely welcome pack of goodies which were yummy :-). Having off street parking was really helpful and there was plenty of room for our large car. You could leave the car at the cottage and not use it all holiday because there are plenty of lovely restaurants and cafes within walking distance (we recommend The Terrace Tapas Bar and Lime Kiln Cafe and Bar) and the south west coast path is on your doorstep. However, it is a great base from which to explore the wider area. We would recommend Lynton and Lynmouth and the Valley of the Rocks.
