What our customers say about their holidays

Combe Cottage was a great place for what we paid.
I was central for lots of places such as the Lakes, the beaches and the Miner's Arms was two doors away. It was really clean and decorated well. The beds were comfortable apart from the second bedroom which was only really suitable for children as the beds were quite small. The kitchen is tiny and has no worktop space, even to wash up and drain. In fairness though there is a dishwasher. The parking could be an issue in busy times as the neighbours tend to hog the space. You either have to park down the road outside someone else's house or, if you are friendly, ask the pub if you can park on their car park. The neighbours do not appear to want to converse. The highlight for us was the lovely people around here. Silecroft is a small hamlet and most people are really friendly. The Miner's Arms is a lovely place to make friends and Ryan and his Dad were very welcoming. It's a shame that the place is up for sale. My husband loved it there as they have lovely ale and he could watch football. The beach is just down the road. It is lovely and quiet and has a free car park, lovely ice cream and you can sit there on the benches and while away the hours. The lakes are nearby and are amazing. The coast is lovely and this lovely little house is a bargain! Stairs are steep but they make that clear in the description. Outdoor space at the back has no privacy and is limited. I would not trust my dog to not jump over the wall. All in all we had fab weather and a good experience, but this was mainly due to lovely people and lovely country side.

Extremely disappointed in the cleanliness of the property.
It is supposed to be thoroughly cleaned in line with COVID but it was definitely not. My daughter and I had to clean the kitchen for us to use it - definitely not the standard I would expect. The house sleeps 8 people and we brought quite a lot of food with is - the fridge was nowhere near suitable, far too small. The microwave hadnât been cleaned either with food residue stuck to the roof! There were only 7 dessert/cereal dishes too! The drawers in the bedrooms havenât seen a duster for months! The bannister rail was filthy. We had two 80+ year olds in the party and nowhere in the property description does it state it is a steep hill of approximately 500 meters up to the property from Bowness. The description doesnât mention the âaccess onlyâ driveway and the awkwardness of parking 2 big cars. There is only 1 standard outdoor bin for all rubbish which again isnât really enough. The plumbing is noisy and requires attention it reverberates through the house and we are still trying to find the Jack and Jill bathroom!!! We go on a self catering family holiday every year and the only time we have had issues with the property is on the 2 holidays booked through yourselves in the Lake District - makes it hard for us to recommend to others. On the plus side the location for those who are able and fit and love the outdoors is fantastic. All in all the property just needs a good clean, a bit more attention to detail and some TLC and it would be fantastic.

Booked last min for couples, for a 50th birthday celebration.
A few days before we were due to arrive I reviewed our booking to ask some questions on what equipment was in the kitchen and it was the first time I saw some negative reviews - which did concern me. However, we found no issues with the property and it was perfect for this occasion. Its a bit dated but that just added to the charm of the house. Great location, even if its up hill on the way home. All the rooms were big and there was enough utensils in the kitchen. The fridge is only a standard size, so people need to be aware if they are a large group and going for more than a couple of days. We bought an electric cool box with us which helped with 7 adults (kept the fizz cold). The showers were lovely and powerful as well. Would suggest using the boot room to come and go as the front door was hard to open. The only complaints would be that the twin room that can be converted to a king was not make up in advance, even though we had requested this and it was also noted on our booking, but someone did come the following morning to do this, so it was no big deal. Bring toilet roll as there was only 1 roll in each toilet so we did have to buy a pack which we did not expect to do - but that was it - all in all it was a great house and we would come again (just wish we could bring the dog - but its no pets).

Very pleased with The Stables.
Excellent spacious accommodation. Ideal for a holiday any time of the year. Cosy lounge with two heaters to keep you warm on a chilly winter night. Easy to use appliances in the kitchen. A great fusion of old and new. Donât expect an invigorating shower though as the water pressure is low. Ideal for a family or couple. Good too for someone with limited mobility. I took my sister who walks with the aid of a frame. Owners left a welcome gift of wine and chocolate and were kind enough to bring us candles and torches in case we had a blackout during Storm Eowyn, which we did! Lots of places to visit in the area although some attractions are closed in the winter. Nature reserve at Millom and a good pub in the square. Walk along the old railway at Broughton-In-Furness then visit the pub in the square with open fire to warm yourself. Swinside Stone Circle nearby. Limited parking on narrow lane near the entrance of the farm track that you have to walk up to access the site. All in all The Stables is the ideal all year round base for walking the quiet southwestern fells, cycling and scenic driving.

Miyanli is an old house that is in a good location.
The property is dated and there were a few issues and only one was resolved. The utility room has mould all over the walls, damp and the ceiling is falling down. I have pictures that have been sent to Sykes. The kitchen. Smells of damp. Only one shower works at a time so taking ages for people to get showered/bath. The tv didnât work for 2 days - this was rectified. O have spoken to Sykes and they are still advertising this property and they did not advise me of these problems when we booked and there are now similar comments. When we are leaving a council application was erected seeking planning to knock down part of the property where it is damp so both parties are aware of this situation and we were not advised. The owners /sykes are not prepared to offer any financial compensation. Do not rent this property if you want showering or bathing - it will take ages for the whole family and if you have any health issues itâs a no go. Great location but wonât be using Skyeâs again as we werenât informed. !!!
