What our customers say about their holidays

This was our 2nd stay at Taigh Glas and we enjoyed it just as much.
Taigh Glas is in a tranquil location and has all the facilities you would need with the most comfortable bed! The panormaic windows in the lounge give you views across the fields to the mountains and out to sea. Big Sand Beach is just a short walk down the lane. We shopped at most of the little nearby shops, we recommend Viral Spark (the vinyl shop), Crumbs (the little sandwich, pie, cake shop), Budda By The Sea and the Farm Shop. The Millcroft Inn Bar is friendly for a local drink. We recommend the Loch Kersary walk in Poolewe, seeing stag and deer. On returning from our walk we seen otter in Loch Ewe at Poolewe. A litte book in the property for coastal and country walks was useful: we visited Slaggan Bay with incredible views when you get there, idyllic. A short distance is Mellon Udrigle Beach which is also worth a visit, pristine. The Gairloch Explorer walk was also enjoyable. Additional places we recommend: Firemore Beach, the monument at Achnasheen further along is very poignant. Pleasant drives to Aultbea and Mellon Charles. It was lovely to meet Elizabeth who is very considerate and gives you all the privacy you need but is happy to help if you need anything, thank you for your kind texts before and during our stay - much appreciated and we hope to return in the future x

What an absolutely idyllic holiday we had at Taigh Glas.
The cottage was immaculate and the panoramic views were fantastic. Watching the landscape of an evening across the sea, hills and mountains was mesmerising. The nearby village of Strath is very pretty with a selection of shops and Gairloch has everything you could need. We found the Farm Shop very friendly and had pretty much anything you needed. The beaches are lovely with a wide selection along whichever route you take. There's a nice little walk from Gairloch Beach to the harbour. Flowerdale Glen (Waterfall) was a lovely walk, seeing a stag (at the pond area near the entrance) was pretty special. Poolewe was beautiful, the local market on a Tuesday is recommended and the little cafe near the post office has delicious home made pies! Catching a sea trout in the estuary of Loch Ewe was a dream. Recommend walking the circular Loch Kernsary route, pure wilderness. Rubha Reidh lighthouse along the B8021 from the cottage is well worth a visit, passing through Melvaig and the vastness of the landscape makes it feel like the edge of the world! A walk over to Big Sand Beach to watch the sunset is only 5 minutes away. The directions to the cottage were perfect. Thankyou Elizabeth for a wonderful holiday.

Tigh Bhisa is a wonderful base from which to explore Lewis and Harris.
It is centrally situated and easily reached from Stornaway and Leverburgh depending on which ferry you arrive on. Arriving to a selection of delicious sweet treats and local music playing set the tone for a marvellous stay. The cottage was immaculately clean and beautifully furnished and equipped. The owners have obviously put a great deal of thought and effort into providing local information, history, books and dvds. We were incredibly lucky with the weather in early May and found the cottage warm through the underfloor heating. The option to use the wood burner, with fuel provided, was welcome, although we didnât need it. An excellent selection of towels were provided, including lovely big ones, such a luxury! The super king sized bed was wonderfully comfortable. As mentioned in the property information the shower is âcompactâ but perfectly manageable for a weekâs stay. It was lovely to sit out in the garden and drink in the view, whilst watching the birds nesting in the cottage walls come and go. Tigh Bhisa is one of the best holiday cottages we have ever stayed in and weâd love to return some day!

Tigh Bhisa Blackhouse is a first rate accommodation.
The original blackhouse has an addition that houses the kitchen, bath and entry hall that allows for the original building to be a commodious great room and bedroom. There are added skylights that make it a bright space and a wood stove making it cosy. There are some wonderful design elements that make it most unique. The kitchen is well appointed with dish ware and utensils and was a large, efficient workspace. Two niggling points. The infloor radiant heat worked well to heat the bedroom and kitchen/bath addition but the great room was on the cool side. I did use the wood stove to make the space comfortable but it still was falling short unless the fire was well stoked. The second is the bathroom shower. It is a corner triangular unit that is quite small. Iâm 6 feet and 180 pounds and the space was barely manageable. A note to larger guests; it may rule out a stay at this listing.

This place is absolutely wonderful for a relaxing, restful, beautiful place to be.
The cottage manages to be cosy and yet spacious; has a beautiful wood-and-peat fire that you can enjoy any time you want; and when you open your front door you're looking right out to the sea. You're only a few minutes away from the Callenish Stones, and everywhere else is really easy to get to also. Justin and Laura leave a binder full of all the information that you could possibly need, right down to a mechanic if something goes wrong with your car (which happened to me). There's also a lot of info about the island so you don't have to do any research beforehand, just sit down with the binder and read through all the leaflets and travel info! It's the perfect location in so many ways. If you want peace and beauty and a location that is both close to everything and yet secluded at the same time, this is the place. Couldn't recommend it higher.
