What our customers say about their holidays

The Cider Barn is a fabulous cottage, attached to the owners' property one side and to another holiday home the other side.
It feels quiet and not overlooked and the thick stone walls mean that it is very quiet. The cottage is so quaint and has all the amenities you'd need, indeed most things seem brand new. It was really useful having the washing machine/dryer as the weather wasn't kind to us. We were there a week and the whole time we felt relaxed and happy. The local pub is an easy 20 minute walk and serves excellent food. We liked how easy it was to get to the place from the motorway/major roads and then the simplicity of travelling to the local beaches. We would have liked a folder of the local beaches, where to park, etc as we didn't know the local area. That said, Julie and Phil were great hosts with advice, when we asked them. We liked the fact that there was plenty of space for the 4 of us - wardrobes and drawers in both bedrooms, plenty of space in the kitchen area and it was lovely to be able to 'move in' for the week and not live out of suitcases, which you have to do with smaller apartments. The cottage does not have a grass area - just the picnic bench area shown on the photos but you can roam the farm and there is a swing/slide area. Overall, we were delighted with the accommodation, the area and facilities nearby. A great place for a week of relaxation and sunshine. The kids are pleading for us to rebook for next year!

Wow! What a lovely cozy completely refurbished cottage with all our needs catered for.
We originally wanted a cottage with a real fire but we both loved the real like electric fire and decided it was better without the hassle of making it up after long walks bagging tors. The kitchen was more than fully equipped and everything was very good quality as the owners have a real detail for providing the best. The garden was lovely with the seating area but too cold for us to use but be lovely in the summer. Big spacious bedrooms with large king size beds and one en suite and even though we were almost on the Main Street it was very quiet. We loved the location being in the centre of Chagford with a good selection of artisan shops and being opposite Blacks the most amazing deli where we bought soups and cakes for our walks and three really lovely food pubs - The Three Crowns, The Globe and our favourite The Chagford Inn. We also recommend breakfast in The Old Forge Cafe. Thereâs an excellent wine shop selling local beer and cider and a bakery, greengrocers and butchers. We particularly loved the bell ringing on Tuesday evening for 90 minutes. We also managed to park on the street for free. We notice from the visitors book that many people stay for a second time and we can see why! Thank you to our hosts for making such a wonderful holiday stay

This has to be one of the best cottages we have stayed in.
The cottage was beautiful, clean and cosy with everything needed for a stay. The outside space with table and chairs would be lovely in the summer and parking was good. The owner's were welcoming and friendly without being intrusive even going as far as to phone us to say that the main road was closed due to an accident but to ignore the signs because the accident was beyond the entrance to the cottage. We hope to return. We are used to one lane roads but a warning in the info of the one lane road with bends leading from the main road to the cottage might be helpful to someone who isn't aware of how they work and what to do if you meet someone coming the opposite way.

A very well designed & comfortable cottage in an excellent position.
It is quite cosy downstairs, as we discovered when two friends joined us for a couple of days, but the bedrooms were spacious and the extra bathroom was very welcome. Parking in the nearby car park was no problem - and we were relieved to find that was space to unload/load outside for 30 minutes. An issue with a missing frying pan was swiftly resolved by the housekeeper & owner (although we later noticed that only one of the provided saucepans worked on the induction hob). But given the tight dining space (a table with foldaway chairs might help), itâs probably better to plan to eat out at one of the many nearby pubs in Chagford. Overall a lovely place to stay.

Julie and Phil, the owners, were welcoming and helpful.
We settled into this quiet and remote part of Devon very quickly and enjoyed a relaxing two week October stay. The property is on a narrow lane with almost no passing traffic and suffers with little or no light or noise pollution. Peaceful, as we like it. Broadband wifi is available but due to bandwidth limitations is very unreliable including for catch-up TV. Probably not unusual in a location like this but a nuisance if you rely on the internet whilst away. We were mostly without a Vodafone signal too. Internet and phone connections apart we had a great stay and highly recommend the Cider Barn.
