About this property

Set within five acres of glorious parkland, Château Le Maurin captures the rustic romance of south west France, where mature cedar trees cast shifting shadows and the rhythm of the day is guided by sunlight and open space. Arranged around a quadrangle with its own pigeonnier, this historic estate offers a setting designed for gathering and unwinding with family or friends.

Inside, the château reveals characterful rooms with original features such as fireplaces and high ceilings. Soak up the charm of the main reception room, retreat to the day lounge for reading and board games, or spend time with family in the separate games lounge/gym with its pool table. The kitchen is well equipped for groups, whilst upstairs you will find six well-appointed bedrooms and five bathrooms (some en suite), offering comfort for all. In addition, a single bedroom with its own shower room is downstairs.

Across the courtyard, the characterful pigeonnier offers a simpler and more rustic retreat with its own living space and four bedrooms, including a master room set beneath a vaulted tower ceiling.

Wander down the steps towards the swimming pool, the true heart of the estate. There is ample space for lounging and dining across the grounds whilst the trampoline and table tennis add to the sense of fun.

Just 4km away, Sainte Foy la Grande brings local life to your doorstep, with its riverside setting, historic streets and beautiful Saturday morning market. The Dordogne River offers canoeing and fishing, while the surrounding countryside is rich with vineyards and charming villages. Bergerac Airport is within easy reach, and the celebrated wine region of Saint-Émilion lies only 45 minutes by car, making this an ideal base for both relaxation and exploration.

For families and groups seeking character and a true taste of authenticity, Château Le Maurin offers a charming setting in a fine location in south-west France.

Set in the Gironde countryside near the Dordogne border, Château Le Maurin enjoys a well-connected location, less than half an hour from Bergerac Airport. Close to the iconic Dordogne River and landscapes dotted with vines, this is a region defined by its natural beauty and rich heritage, offering a wonderfully authentic slice of south-west France.

Less than a 10-minute drive away, Sainte-Foy-la-Grande sits on the banks of the Dordogne River, a historic bastide town founded in the 13th century. Its charming streets retain much of their original architecture, with covered archways framing the lively Saturday morning market, considered one of the most beautiful in the region. Here, locals gather to shop for fresh produce, while visitors can browse alongside them before stopping at one of the town’s boulangeries, traditional cafes or restaurants. Practical amenities are well catered for, with supermarkets both in the town and on its outskirts.

The nearby Dordogne River invites leisurely days outdoors, whether canoeing or kayaking along its scenic stretches. For wine enthusiasts, the surrounding region is a delight, with opportunities to sample local vintages from the vineyards of the Périgord Pourpre and the Durèze valley, extending towards Bergerac and the renowned Château de Monbazillac (27km).

Slightly further afield, the unesco-listed village of Saint-Émilion (37km) is an unmissable highlight, famed for its exceptional wines and medieval charm. Equally enticing are nearby villages and market towns such as Gensac (17km), Eymet (25km) and Issigeac (39km), each offering their own unique character.

For cultural excursions, spend the day exploring the historic streets of Bergerac (26km) or venture to Bordeaux (77km), both accessible by train from Sainte-Foy-la-Grande, making this location ideal for both relaxation and discovery.

What can I say? If only there was a six-star rating. We (a group of about 25 wine lovers, ranging from babies to retirees) have been coming here for years, for an annual get-together. Lucky us. Prior to finding Chateau Le Maurin Estate, we used to try a new location every couple of years (France, Belgium, Devon...) but once we found this, we couldn't beat it. The arrangement of the accommodation and facilities are everything we need: kids, teenagers, parents, all happy - with enough space to do our own thing, and enough space to congregate together inside or out, and watch the stars from the terrace. Good sized pool, solid functional utilities (i.e. no surprises with plumbing, washing, kitchen etc), acres of land, trampolines, games room, all get put through their paces by our group. Lovely lanes to run/cycle/explore, vineyards to visit (or be visited by!), huge supermarket and shops a short drive away. All with a sense of blissful isolation when on the property. Amanda and her team keep this gorgeous building beautifully, effortlessly tasteful and comfortable. They are very helpful and easy to deal with.

Chateau Le Maurin proved to be an inspired choice as a venue for our family holiday this year. 27 of us, varying in age from 4 - 80, descended on Amanda's tranquil oasis in July and any pre-holiday nerves, as to whether or not the property would live up to the marketing, were immediately calmed because Chateau Le Maurin is truly beautiful. The property has been so well thought out on every level with great interior design, great landscaping, all the facilities you will need including all the toys to keep the younger members amused as well as having enough space for every guest, even in a group our size, to have their own space. The owner could not have been more helpful or charming. We would love to go back and re-live what was an exceptional holiday.
