About this property

Balcon Azure is a modern, stylish sixth floor apartment which sleeps four – it’s just right for a family who would enjoy being 50 metres from the beach. The panoramic views of the Bay of Biscay and the city rooftops of Biarritz from its main terrace will take your breath away. The ocean and the sky change colour many times but we can guarantee more than a touch of blue during your stay!

The apartment brings a sense of calm and simplicity without sacrificing taste, comfort and practicality. Everything you need is here – even the storage is beautifully integrated into its design. The sliding doors in the living area open onto a large terrace where meals can be eaten, drinks sipped, swimwear washed and sunsets admired. Parents will long for some private time in their luxurious master bedroom with its Italian walk in shower, TV and separate private terrace and the bunk beds in the small second bedroom will delight the children.

With so much to do nearby it might take a while before you are ready to discover all that Biarritz has to offer. Walk a few minutes beyond Miramar beach towards the most famous beach in Biarritz, La Grande Plage. While you are there, have a look at the grand Art Deco style of the Hotel du Palais, so typical of the city. There is an amazing market downtown at the Halles de Biarritz where you can buy fresh fruit, seafood, vegetables, warm bread as well as typical Basque specialities.

Biarritz is of course a mecca for surfers and Oliver’s Travels guests can arrange surf coaching for all abilities or just equipment hire. Other services that can be offered include guided tours, bike rental and scooter hire or you may wish to hire a car or even personal chauffeur so you can get out and explore some of the further wonders of the Pyrénées-Atlantiques region, whether idyllic Basque villages near the majestic mountains, wilder beaches along the coast or pretty seaside villages.

You may prefer to just stay in your perfect ocean-view apartment in Biarritz where you can explore, shop, dine, surf, or just relax by one of the many wonderful beaches this part of the Basque coastline has to offer.Balcon Azure is on the sixth floor of a large modern apartment complex adjacent to a 5* hotel in the heart of the city and a short walk away from the promenade at Miramar Beach. Guests benefit from discounted access to the hotel’s two swimming pools and spa.

Biarritz is an elegant resort in the Pyrénées-Atlantiques region of south-west France, dating back to the mid-19th century when the aristocracy built their summer residences along this part of the coast, following the example of their Emperor.

The apartment is a short stroll away from the well-known Hotel du Palais (280m) built by Eugenie, the wife of Napoleon III, who had spent her childhood holidays on the Basque coast and fallen in love with its landscape - the hotel remains a symbol of the luxurious lure of Biarritz.

The local beach, Miramar, is a continuation of the city’s famous Grande Plage but it’s quieter than the main beach and more visited by the locals. There are many other beaches to enjoy such as Plage de la Cote des Basques (2.2km), which has become a favourite for surfers. Biarritz has become a surfing mecca with enthusiasts from all over the world attracted to its 6km of coastline and beyond. There are plenty of surfing schools for abilities and all ages. Oliver Travel’s guests can arrange surf coaching or just equipment hire during their stay.

When you need a gentler paddle and splash, there is a tiny sheltered beach at Port Vieux (1.6km) which is situated near the town’s main shopping street, Rue Port Vieux.

Take a break from the ocean to enjoy the Art Deco architecture which is a theme throughout the city. The Casino Municipal (800m) and the Aquarium (1.6km) are good examples of the style. The Casino also houses a theatre and swimming pool.

From your apartment terraces you will see the Phare de Biarritz (750m), a tall lighthouse built in 1834. Climb its 248 steps for stunning ocean and town views or look towards the beaches of the Anglet coastline. These northern beaches, surrounded by grassland and forests, are a paradise for surfers and well worth a visit.

Food aficionados, don’t miss the restaurants and the amazing market at the Halles de Biarritz, (1.2km). Try out some of the Basque specialities including the touron (marzipan) and locally cured ham or simply buy some fresh fruit, vegetables and warm baguettes. If you love sea food you’ll find plenty of good restaurants in the interesting Port des Pecheurs (1.3km), the city’s former fishing port.

There are some idyllic Basque villages inland to explore such as two of France’s Plus Beaux Villages, pretty Ainhoa (31km) and Sare (28km) where you can take the old wooden train up to the summit of La Rhune, one of the highest peaks of the Pyrénées - there are restaurants with incredible views up here as well as opportunities for hiking.
