Stepping into Le Joyau du Berger feels like entering a world apart. Five air-conditioned, en-suite bedrooms unfold across three levels, with the master suite carved beneath the cliffs themselves, complete with a copper bathtub in the room. The living spaces breathe with character and calm, from the bespoke kitchen to the grand salon, where vintage seating is arranged beneath the imposing limestone rock.

Wellness is woven into the very fabric of the house. A vaulted spa beneath the rock invites long hours of repose, with an indoor heated pool and sauna offering sanctuary from the summer sun. Outdoors, the salt-water heated pool is so beautifully positioned, while evenings are made for slow dining beneath the stars, with a Japanese-style Kamado grill and a table set for ten.

Surrounded by verdant nature and hiking paths that thread into the Alpilles, the house sits just minutes by car from the centre of Les Baux-de-Provence. The village itself is classified as one of France’s ‘Plus Beaux Villages’. Even closer, at the foot of the village, the celebrated Restaurant La Cabro d'Or Baumanière awaits (reserve in advance).

Surrounded by olive groves, Maussane-les-Alpilles offers a more laid-back charm, with a good selection of shops and restaurant terraces, olive oil mills and a traditional Provençal market on a Thursday morning. Paradou is another delight, home to Le Bistrot du Paradou.

Adventure calls from Les Alpilles themselves - a striking landscape of jagged peaks, olive groves and cypress-lined paths. Walking, cycling and horse riding trails weave through the hills (with hiking and biking trails straight from the house), offering endless opportunities to explore. Golf enthusiasts will find two excellent courses nearby, including the prestigious Domaine de Manville. Just ten minutes away by car, Saint-Rémy-de-Provence enchants with its Wednesday morning market, Roman ruins and a buzzing arts scene inspired by Van Gogh’s legacy.

Further afield, the cobbled lanes and Roman wonders of Arles and Nîmes make for perfect day trips, while Avignon’s Papal Palace and festival spirit are just under an hour away. For a wilder experience, the Camargue’s salt flats, flamingos and wide open skies are within easy reach. Alternatively, discover the charm of Eygalières, the hilltop beauty of Gordes or L’Isle-sur-la-Sorgue, famous for its antiques and canals.
